I know a rattler, cottonmouth, and copper head when I see one and what I mentioned earlier is how my pops taught me. What other features should I key in on to identify a venomous snake?

Well, it's not that you're wrong, it's just that it can be tricky for people who don't know what they're looking at. Pit vipers DO have triangular heads that are very recognizable. BUT, a lot of snakes will flatten out their heads in threat displays like the photos I posted. People who may not be all that familiar with different snakes often mistake those "triangular" heads, for the triangular heads of a pit viper.
