I bought it a couple years ago and it has worked flawlessly until a few weeks ago.
While using the spot lock feature, it would work for a few minutes, beep with a message on remote “motor not found” and turn off. I could immediately just hit the spot lock button again and it would work but do the same thing a minute or so later .
Changed out the receptacle and plug to marinco 70amp last week and it worked fine all day.
Yesterday it started back with the same issue.
the current was pulling pretty hard and the motor was trying to keep it locked but just couldn’t. I’m wondering if it’s disconnecting because it couldn’t keep up?

It’s a 24v 80lb thrust on a 19’ century. Both batteries are fully charged but did read different voltages and I’ve read they are picky in regards to voltage.

Any ideas?

What breaker do you have on it?

I’d run it on 3 batteries if you can.

Sounds like it's power related whether it be the plug or the power to the heading sensor. Any loss of thrust when you're using it normally?

I know mine was giving me issues because the little metal connection piece that connects the 12v/24v plugs on my older style plug needed to be replaced and respliced

Last week I used it to bring me in 2.5 miles because of engine trouble. Seemed to work fine then. Then again, the spot lock worked fine that day too.

Power to the heading sensor is a great thought. I have it hooked up to a bar in my t-top box.
I’m gonna check all that in a minute.

Even if you lose power to the heading sensor it shouldn’t cause the tm to shut down. That’s only for orientation.
It seems like you are losing power to the tm. If it was happening in spot lock when it was working hard I’d look at the breaker. Is it a minn kota 60 amp? But it could also be a connection or something else

I had a question regarding the terrova as well. Is there a way to hook up a foot control rather than using the remote?

Yes there is. Mine is about 3 years old now and I've had the foot pedal since I got it. It's wired and plugs into the stub hanging out of the base of the motor.

I usually only use it when I bass fish which is about 50% of my boat use. Has all the features you typically use accessible from the pedal.

I would say almost 100% that you have a bad battery or not enough power going to the unit. What voltage are you getting at the plug?

Mine would turn itself off. Minn Kota insisted it was my batteries or a bad connection. I do electrical work so I went through my system carefully, changed plug, load tested batteries, etc.

Pulled the control board out and put it on an independent power supply for testing. It turned itself off after a little while. Replaced it and never had an issue since.

Control board is about $200 and very easy to DIY.

How different are the battery voltages, you’re only as good as your worst battery sometimes. Voltage can look good enough with no load but put a load and you ain’t got shite. A voltmeter while the motor is doin work may tell you something useful. A voltmeter is your friend, either checking supply voltage, or voltage drop thru wiring

We had the same issue with the same trolling motor. Our remote was one of the problems. If you put the remote on the lanyard and wear it around your neck you can easily knock it out of spot lock. Our remote also seemed to be bad. We replaced it and quit wearing it and haven’t had many problems at all since

Seems like it was 12.75 and 12.89 or so. I haven’t checked under load so no telling what it is really .
I plan to run it again this week and will check all that.

That’s interesting. Is there a way to test if it was bad or did you just buy a new one?

In the base, not the head. Side panels come off and it’s fairly straightforward. It’s all quick connects with heatshrink like they know you’ll have to replace it.

Thanks, I’ll look into it tomorrow.
I tested the batteries again today, they were 13.1 and had 26 at the receptacle. I don’t think it’s a battery issue.
Gotta be the control board or remote as mentioned previously.
