I wish I could catch a single trout from my kayak. Of course I only go once every 2 years but that's beside the point. Catching fish is lots of fun.

Today I fished in Galveston, Texas with my uncle and his friend who is a guide. We caught 25 keeper trout (the size minimum here is 15 in) and another 25-30 12-14 inch trout. My question is this, what is stopping Louisiana from following suit with other states on the gulf coast and upping the standards for our fish a little bit? We have such an amazing fishery in Louisiana that makes all other states look like an amateur hour, yet we settle for the smaller average sized trout. Y'all lemme know what you think
Those down votes..............

frick tards that want to keep and ice chest full of 12"ers are shitbags.

the fishing would be down for a few years but would become a monster in 5 years if limits were reduced and minimums were raised to 14-15ins.

but you have the shitbags, even on this board, that yell and scream, "DONT TAKE MY 12" TROUT AWAY FROM ME ARG"

But they claim science. Do you not trust science?

Truth is many people don't ever limit out on trout.

now that is truth. People claim they fill up a box every trip when more like 1-5 is a full limit trip.

wouldn't do much according to research, but if it makes you feel better
acording to that same research that says red snapper are hard to come by in the gulf.

Because he's from florida and naturally enjoys catching less fish

maybe you are just an inshore fisherman and enjoy reeling in bait.

Spotted Seatrout is a state managed species not Federally managed

ETA: Data used in the creation of that article was from LA CREEL which is the state's version of MRIP (federal recreational survey).

State also collects information on harvest rates for Red Snapper via LA CREEL. But the program has only been in existence since 2014.

From my understanding the state program is still undergoing the benchmarking process with the Feds so that the Feds can use the data instead of MRIP data.

The thought process behind 15" over 14" is it gives female trout a extra year of spawning potential before they are eligible for harvest.

We don't need spawning. We need age.

I agree if your talking La trout, I was replying about Tx trout and why it's 15" and not 14". Everyone talks about how they catch so many 14" class fish in Tx not realizing if the size limit was lowered to 14" then they would be catching a bunch of 13" fish.
