October 1st is 3 weeks away, and I cant contain my excitement anymore...

Logging back on td-Outdoor Board to join in the
hunting discussions.

I have been lurking a bit, and i have a couple of thoughts....

* Eradicating hogs by marshmallows is not only ethical, but fun and exciting to watch.

** NascarFans pond turned out much better than expected.

*** I am sick of working on my boat.

What determines whether a baby pig comes out looking wild with the natural stripes vs. the spotted yard pig look? Like this pic, I've seen both from what appears to be the same litter.

Genetics!

Seriously, maybe someone who some animal husbandry can tell us if a sow can be impregnated by two different boars.

My personal thought would be just like a litter of ups can come out different colors so can a litter of pigs. You do have the blood line of those hogs that have been feral for centuries and therefore have reverted in color to the wild norm but you also have blood lines of more recent releases which contain some of the more farm breed blood lines.

I know when I was a child my dad and uncles would often buy "blooded" hogs (meaning from a farm breed) to release into the wild with the wild population to improve the herd.

Did you ever get on those perches on South TB like you did a couple years ago?

I had exactly one productive perchin trip this year. I plan on hitting them again in my deep water winter spot Decemberish.

I am hoping to have killed 4 or 5 deer by then, that way i dont feel pressured to fill the freezer by having to skip out on winter perchin to kill deer.

Two weekends in a row. The dumbass strollers thought they were not biting. I have almost no competition. You had to search, but I found two concentrations near La. Islands.

haha good, glad you got to catch some.

If i can get on them again this year like i have in years past, I will have to let you know.

I dont know if it would be worth the road trip for you to catch 30-50 good slabs though...

Dont you live in Alexandria / Ellic / Alec / however else people say it?

You'd think LWF would try harder to check for tagged deer but I have never heard of one instance of this happening

Ive been checked on 2 out of 3 kills the past two years.

I also have never reported a pig kill so you can add about a dozen for me from last year.

I will say this, a local deer processor here told my dad he didn't have to tag and report his deer because he was over 65. This was after my dad dropped off a deer with the tag attached. My dad believed it because, "hey, some random guy told me, it has to be true". This despite the fact that he had always tagged and reported every deer he had killed and had been issued tags every year even though he didn't need to buy a license.

It didn't matter that I was an attorney and checked the regulations. As I said, some guy told him he didn't have to do it. It took me calling the LDWF on speakerphone in front of him to get him to believe me.

The point being, a lot of people don't understand the rules.

I'll admit, I don't always think about the tag right away but I do always call them in

I usually remember the tag when I have the deer hanging up.

We always call in our deer though.
