I’ve heard great things about him as well. He’s a little over an hour from here but looking forward to the trip. My son wants to be a gunsmith so he’s excited about going also.

text me whenever as this is what I have found so far
- Ruger 77 tang safety in 257 Roberts
- Winchester BACO (US made / Browning) newer production Featherweight with box but it is not the best shooter! 1 1/4-1/2”. Really nice handling gun with some minor marks. $1050 shipped.
- Winchester 70 XTR featherweight in .257 Bob that has been sitting in the safe for a while now. Very good + condition. Shoots 100 gr loads well. (I have data as well)
Blued/Walnut.

A little bit of an update. Thanks to Got Blaze , I have a pristine Ruger Model 77 in 257 Robert’s on the way. It should arrive at my FFL early next week. Huge thanks to Got Blaze for finding this gun and putting me in contact with the seller. I won’t need to have one built as I was planning . I’m like a kid waiting on Christmas. I’ll post pics as soon as I have it.

Well, I'm late to the party, but since you handload, I also was also going to suggest the Ackley Improved version of the 257 if you were going to get a new barrel, I used to load so 257 Roberts ammo for a friend, When he took a grandson deer hunting, he liked for him and the grandson to carry rifles chambered in the same round, the 257 Roberts. He was going to take them on a hunt in TX at a ranch that did not allow Nosler Ballistic Tip bullets (this was in early 2000) so I worked up a youth load using the 90 gr Sierra HP. They killed a bunch of deer w/ the load through the years until they grew into the 308.
Keep us updated w/ the gun project. Is Roberts brass hard to find?

Barnes makes some TTSX that’s 110 or 115 grain. I have 4 or 5 boxes of it in .257 wby mag.
Don’t know if they’re hard to find. That’s of the only calibers I own that I don’t reload for.

Very, the seller is nice enough to sell me 50 unfired brass as part of the deal. I’ve been reading a lot about a good round for deer for that gun. I’m interested in the Speer hot cor 100, nosler accubond 110, and a couple others.

I have a Kimber 84 in 257 Roberts. I shoot 120 gr Nosler Partition handloads and it is a killer

I guess you could expand the neck of 6mm Remington or neck down 7mm Mauser, although might need to turn the necks or trim the brass.

I could . Just a personal preference to have the correct headstamp.
I’ll have enough to last awhile. If I need some more, Gunbroker has it but it’s pricey.

I understand. One of my hunting buddies ammo. The only guns w/ the "right" headstamp ammo are 221 Fireball, 22 Nosler, 260 Rem, 7-08 Rem and 284 Win. I've started putting loading instructions in each handloading notebook for my guns. This post was edited on 1/8/24 at 11:52 am
