Looking to have a rifle built..update

I’ve been looking for a 257 Robert’s for quite awhile and they are like hens teeth. I’ve decided to have one built on a Model 700 action for hunting. I know it’s not the fastest and ammo is scarce . I have the magnums but leaning towards less recoil as I get older. I’m going to see a gunsmith in a couple weeks and want to know what yall have done that you’d do again and wouldn’t . I want the gun to look like a traditional deer rifle so that eliminates carbon fiber and the like.

I’d consider a .25-06 if I was looking in that direction. Seems like Ruger used to sell a good many 257 Roberts. A Ruger #1 in that would be cool.

They are out there but few and far between. Gunbroker has one occasionally but they go for $$$$$.
I reload so hoping to achieve 25/06 performance with the Bob.

My advice,
Before you build it, pick your bullet of choice and seat a dummy round to the length YOU want. Take it to your gunsmith and have him throat the barrel off that. You'll get more case capacity and the velocity you are looking for.
I say this because I learned after I built my custom 7mm rem mag that I should have done this. Instead I have a saami spec throat. Long bullets are seated deep in the case. I'm sure I could get it rethroated but it shoots good as is.

Pick a really good trigger. I absolutely love trigger tech triggers. I have 6 or 7.
More weight means less recoil and easier to shoot more accurately. If you are not carrying the gun for a long way, consider a heavier barrel.
I would not get a gun without a threaded barrel. I will not hunt without a suppressor and neither does my son.

I have a trigger tech diamond on my custom Remington 700 7mm rem mag. It's set at about 1.5lb. Breaks like glass. My kids custom 270 has one also but it's set a little heavier. Best triggers out there imo.

I’m in the research stage. I want to know what I want (or at least have a good idea) before we go meet with him. A good trigger is high on the list… Timney/trigger tech etc.
I’m a nosler fan . I’ve good success with accubonds in other calibers so may go down that road .
I hunt strictly at home and walk to most of our stands . My longest walk is maybe 10 minutes so not super concerned about weight.

What’s your budget? I have been debating putting one together but just haven’t pulled the trigger lol.
Based on several buddies that have done it and have been happy I’m almost settled on the following.
Mack brothers evo or bighorn origin action
Trigger tech trigger
McMillan or stockys carbon fiber stock
Carbon six barrel
Bdl bottom metal
U said you don’t won’t carbon fiber barrel but if you went with a McMillan wood finish and a steel #5 fluted prefit barrel if would give you the ability to swap barrels of the same cartridge family or even bolt heads if you went with a bighorn action.

I've built close to 50 custom rifles and have consulted on hundreds of builds over the last 30 years. My advice, build exactly what YOU want. Do your research and know the barriers you may encounter. I owned as Browning A-Bolt in 257R that was fun to shoot, but didn't meet my accuracy expectations so I sold it.
Today's 257R ammo prices are insane ... $100 for a box of 20 rds. If you're dead set on the Roberts, I highly recommend you look into reloading or have a friend reload for you.
That being said, I can provide you with all the information you'll need to make your final decision. Since the original Remington went out of business, prices for used rifles have skyrocketed. A standard wood stocked 700 BDL that sold for $550 (used) 2 years ago is now getting $1000 ~ $1200+ based on condition.
Finding a used Rem 700 (affordably priced) in 257R is gonna be real hard. An older 722 may be your best option if wanting to buy a factory rifle. Or you can find an older wood stocked 700 SA BDL in 22-250, 243, 308, 7-08 and use it as a donor for the action, stock, and bottom metal. Sell the barrel for $75-100 and apply the funds towards a custom barrel and GS charges. Custom barrel will cost around $350-450, and the cut-chamber-crown will run close to the same.
Another possible hiccup. Very few GS's are gonna have a 257R reamer in their shop. You may have to special order one which will set you back 6-9 months, and $200+ with gauges. Feel free to text/call me as I'll be glad to help you out. Did the same with several other OB'ers who are now looking at building more custom rifles.

Mannnnn I'd get a tikka hunter in 6.5x55 and skip the custom route. It looks good, cool but still widely available and great deer caliber, and it's going to shoot as good as many custom jobs out the box.
257 Bob is cool, but I'm going to hold my nose and recommend 243 if you want even smaller. The ammo availability is infinitely better.

I’ll be using Mr Billy Tierce in Utica , Ms. He’s done a few 257’s over the years but not sure about the reamer.
I do reload so ammo is gonna be ok as long as I can get brass. I bought the dies recently when I found them .
I have your number so you can take it down.

Either he has one or you /him can rent one. You also have the option to buy one.
It's only about $40 to rent one vs over $100 to buy.

Gotblaze helped me with my custom 7 saum. He's always been available when I've had questions since.
I wanted to build a new rifle and he talked me in to buying a used original rem 700 sendero in 25-06. Paid a little more than I should have but it's badass and as good as my custom rig.
