My two boys shot a lot: deer, duck, squirrel hunting all winter, skeet/trap/sporting clays for the school shooting team through 4H, and they turn 14 this month, so want to start shooting handguns indoors since they can go to the range at that age.

I’d like to get them a quality set of in-ear hearing protection and would appreciate any recommendations. I keep seeing ads for Axil gsx2/Sig, but would appreciate any personal experience on quality and durability.

Thanks!

My son is 16 and on his schools trap team

Last year I bought him the Caldwell E-max Shadow that has a Bluetooth connection

He likes them a lot.

Best currently made are Soundgear Phantom. Custom mold. Bluetooth capable. Rechargeable battery. Multiple settings that can act like regular electronic noise protection, hearing aid, or normal non-electric plug.
Very pricey, but I love em. Would need to go an ENT or hearing aid dispensing audiologist to get mold done. I

I just got my custom sleeves in. This is a really good option and you can pay for them with an HSA. I got the impulse filters for shooting and the industrial for work.

The ear cast is a pretty cool process too. I went this route because I absolutely will not remember to charge stuff and I can’t use electronics in a lot of the places I work.

Otto Pro NoizeBarrier is what I purchased. I am on the range with our team almost every weekend and they have been great.

I looked into them a year back and found many comments that no in-ear alone was good enough for indoor ranges.

I got some non-electronic $200 custom in-ear molds from an audiologist and found them fine for outdoor shotguns. But I'm sticking with muffs (sometimes with plugs too) for indoor.

I'd be curious to hear (no pun intended) if anyone has found a good in-ear product that is satisfactory for shooting at an indoor range.

Did the audiologist cast your ear?

Yes. Shot them full of asian to make molds. Sent them off, and the results were back in about 2 weeks. Simple process.

The hardest part is learning which goes in which ear (marking one helps) and inserting them, until you get the hang of it. There's a little twist needed for me, and it took a few tries to figure it out.
