No I have never seen the 410 model. All of the problems I seen came in the 20/12 ga models and Like I said if they are just going to use it to hunt it will probably last but if they get to shooting sporting clays or skeet it may not hold up.

I could live with that.

You could probably say the same thing about the Mossberg pumps. I find them to be great guns for hunting and average use. I don't know how well they would hold up with regular use on clays though.

I have been looking at this gun for the kid, a CZ o/u with a 13" Lop and 24" barrels in 20 gauge. I like the idea of being able to know the gun is safe when the action is open. They can be found for cheaper but the price has been rising over the last 6 months. Full sized version in the photo...

LINK

For anyone needing soft shooting shells check out the RST brand LINK They are a mail order shell and make a quality, light shell. More than likely they will not cycle an auto...

He has been hunting with me for the last 2 seasons, this makes it his 3rd. I let him decided if he wants to come or not, and I beleive I have created a monster. For his 5th birthday all he wanted was a Robo Duck.

The first year I only brought him a couple of times late in the moring just to get him used to it. The next year he made a couple of more hunts. I would bring his BB gun and let him shoot at times. This year he wanted to shoot his .410. My dad and I started him this past summer shooting it. He does pretty good with it, but it is a little big. He got his first kill last Friday, and was he pumped. I know for some of you it will hurt you to see a "COOT",but if you ask him he is very proud of his Pouldeau!

CZ makes a nice youth semi-auto in the 720 model as well.

He does.. I just have to let limit his duck calling at times, if you know what I mean.

Kind of what I was thinking. Next year will be mostly fishing with a few hunts for tree rats and maybe a fair weather duck or two. Mostly get him shooting air/22 next fall.

Sounds like my son. He is also only 5. But he loves going. Right now I let him bring my old single shot 20 gauge, but he doesn't shoot. He does love the duck calls though.

I mainly hunt upland birds with a lot of walking. I prefer that he have a break open gun for safety reasons...

I've grown to love the double gun. Just something special about it. I am kind of a cheapskate though, so the high dollar guns don't make my list.

I shoot a Remington SPR310 now, but I have been eyeing the CZ Bobwhite for some time now.

The swing of a well balanced sxs or o/u is like a wand. The pumps and autos just don't have the same feel to me...

I have a cheap o/u (Fausti that I got new for $225). It is a 20 gauge with 26" barrels that I can cut the stock. I know that the CZ would have better handling and if I have it cut I will lose my rainy day gun. Not to mention we just had a little girl that will hopefully also head to the woods with daddy. A new gun will get plenty of use so I'm not concerned with a dedicated gun getting only a couple of years of use. I still have a little time to decide my oldest is six this month and will be in the woods with me this year but without a gun…

I have fit several kids to shotguns and would say that the most important thing is fit(lop). If the gun is to long or heavy then it is just a big stick. The Mossberg is a good idea bc the lop can be shortened easily and it is relativly inexpensive. Keep in mind that if you are looking at an autoloader that the stocks can't be cut down as much due to the action return spring being the stock. The 870 youth has been improved with the fore end being longer so the kids don't have as much trouble reaching. I would recommend the CZ 720 youth for a solid autoloader. I know two guys that hunt real close to 60 days a year and take the kids along on these hunts. They DO NOT clean their guns for shite and the CZ keeps on rolling! Good luck to you and your kids.
