I had a trip planned with my dad that Hurricane Michael sidelined and we've never scheduled a make-up. That one we had scheduled with a couple of other relatives and it was all-inclusive but pricey, $600 per person per day. I'm ok with that if that's what it costs, but we can figure out lodging and meals if we need to. A recent bass fishing trip made me realize he doesn't have many more years of fishing left. I want a weekend with him and my 2 sons, probably 2 days of fishing. A 4 person boat would be ideal but we can split up if necessary.

Best time of year?
Reliable captains?

Any info is appreciated.

Blue Line Charter Service. They will take care of you and put you on the fish.

Most of the services naturally say "any time of year is great", but around the Florida panhandle I have the best luck in late summer/early fall, like Aug/Sep. Does that hold true on the marshes? I have fish in the freezer so slot limits aren't a priority, I'm mainly looking for numbers and a decent shot at some bulls.

What in the world is that really what it costs now?

That trip was set up by my uncle, who lives in a different tax bracket than I do. As I said, it was all-inclusive, all meals, lodging, etc, but damn. I don't need anything quite that plush, I just want Dad to catch some fish. He's lost a step when it comes to bass fishing with plastics so I want something a little easier.

I’ve been with Al Moreau, of Native Adventures many times. Great Captain and can boil seafood or grill for y’all. Camps he has are nice with full kitchens and grills available if you want to cook.

That’s probably pretty standard for costs on all inclusive. You can save money trying to find other lodging and meals, but the memories with a great charter service will last a lifetime.

My company paid for a bunch of us to go to this place.

The guides were great as well as the fishing.

Doubt you will find much cheaper. The cost of operating and maintaining a boat is astronomical.

You can get day trips for half that, but that appears to be average for food and lodging included.

Where are you?

Venice is great, but redfish are up and down the whole coast.

Go where it's closest.

Florida panhandle. I kayak fish for reds and specs all the time, and you CAN get on redfish here where you're hauling them in, but it's rare and you have to hit everything right. You certainly can't schedule a trip for 4 people and expect to do it on a given day or weekend. From what I've seen and heard from people who've gone, the delta just offers a different experience and massively increases your chances of a banner day. I'd be pretty pissed to pay that kind of money and go out and catch 2-3 fish; I can do that here for free.

If you want to catch reds and have a great time, Charlie Thomason's Bayou Charters in Hopedale is the ticket. Nice lodge, dock right across the road and you will catch a ton of fish anytime of year.

To be honest. Just about any guide down here worth a shite should easily be able to put you on a limit of redfish. Bulls are usually easy as well.

To add on to this thread, what's the usual tip for a guide on a 4 man boat? Venice area

I usually add base 20% assuming they’re cleaning fish, etc. I tipped a guide 25% recently on a trip I took my 11yr old daughter on because he worked his arse off and went well above and beyond to make the trip perfect.
