Why striker fire? Curious to hear the benefits.

Sounds like you need proper semi automatic pistol to round out the collection. Do you prefer range shooting or something to carry?

Both plus where I go hunt in Hale County, Al. A lot of crazy people down there.

I want to look at getting a AR-15 made by SIG, Ruger or S&W

Well, I'm a SIG guy. I have the SP 2022 for range, hunting sidearm, truck carry, etc... And I have the P290rs for CCW.

I'm kind of a fan boy, though. I like shooting double action for CCW, and I like the DA/SA with de cocker on the 2022. I have both in 9mm.

I also have the MP15 and enjoy it immensely, but I'm far from an expert on the platform.

Thanks man. Did that Red Jacket place in Baton Rouge close?
I heard of Simmons Sporting Goods in Bessemer outside B'ham has great stuff in terms of tactical arms

I'm pretty sure Red Jacket is gone, but I would bet one of the gunsmiths is still around.

Not sure I'd spend a ton on a custom AR. Personally, I only play with mine at the range. If you're like me, get a reliable off the shelf model and customize it, or build your own.

I want to spend in the mid 100s. Max for everything is $1,300

Best "off the shelf" AR for the money. DD V11

You can find them around $1,200 if you look around and find the deals.

Don't forget about optics either. If I were you I would get a cheaper gun and spend the rest on optics. Then you can upgrade it down the road as you see fit. Impactguns has a great deal on a S&W M&P Sport right now for $548.88. Slap a EOTech or Aimpoint on there and you are good to go.

Sig Sauer M400 w/optic - $799 + shipping and FFL

FNS 9 - $419 + shipping and FFL

Sub $1300 for a quality AR and semi auto pistol. What do I win?

Red Jacket is now Meauxs Guns or Alkyls Defense(sp).

If probably go somewhere else first though.

Having to ring a doorbell and then answer why I am there just doesn't really create a good customer experience.

I did have a rifle threaded there. Work looks excellent, just wish I didn't have to ask for my gun back 4 months later to actually have them complete the work though.

Ya, I've been there, have to ring the doorbell to get in just like the show.

They don't really have much there. Is probably call first and see if they have anything you are looking for. They don't really seem to have a while bunch of guns on display.

They seem like a bunch of good dudes, just a weird business model.

Well this thread sure got derailed.

1. Same trigger pull every time

2. Smooth backplate

3. Low bore axis (for the most part)

4. Simplicity (lack of manual safeties, decockers, etc.)

5. Fewer moving parts

I would suggest a full sized 9mm. Polymer striker-fired double stack to be more specific...

Smith & Wesson M&P9
Ruger SR9
Walther PPQ
FN FNS9
HK VP9
Glock 17/19
Springfield XD

Solid recommendations.

Also, at the moment, Springfield is running specials on their XD Essential's. $399.99 in 3" or 4", with extra mag in either 9mm or 40 cal, at Walter Craig in Montgomery. They also have safes on sale. You could get the pistol, a Winchester stand up safe and some ammo to practice and carry with and still be under your $1300.

Beginning to feel like this is a troll but I'll bite again.

You can buy a lot more gun for $1500 than the ones you mentioned. Not factoring in the price of an optic (depends on your needs), I would take a hard look at BCM.

BCM® RECCE-16 KMR-A $1399-$1450.
