Just wanted to get the OB opinion in regards to leaving decoys out for the season. Think it matters to the birds on way or the other? Theft isn't an issue.

Most people I hunt with leave them out. Fiddle with some here and there, but for the most part leave them out.

I hunt public so no real input. But wouldn't they fade after a couple months in the sun?

These are pretty old to begin with but the color has held up pretty decent. Some are missing eyes though Mostly late 90's G&H and some cheaper Flambeau mixed with them.

In Mecca area, most fields leave them out. Most of my buddies will go out and re-arrange for various wind and pull the casualties as needed but for the most part they go out in Nov and are pulled in Jan. I am torn on this as I would think if you are working the same birds day in day out they will get used to the same spread but Mecca generally gets lots of ducks passing through so it generally doesn't hurt their success.

Does not matter. By the time the ducks would realize they are faded you should be shooting at them!!

Field hunting in a blind: leave them out all season. Too big of a pain to pick them up and put them out, especially if there are waist deep combine ruts.

Timber: Due to the smaller number used I pick them up at the end of each hunt.

I used to be one of the leave them out hunters when hunting rice pits.. Now with the Texas rigs you can have 8-12 dozen floaters hanging on short lines and 3-4 guys can have them out and picked up in 10 minutes. Add a dozen or two full bodies and you are set. I've played around with smaller spreads in rice fields and killed plenty of birds. I also have used 500 on pits before and know people who still hunt with a spread like that.

I think it's better to pick them up every time, but big spreads and/or spreads where you can't wade make it tough to do that. I hunt with 1-2 dozen, so it's not an issue for me.

I'm really jealous of all of you with your own leases. My dream is to have my own land. I'm going to be looking for something on landwatch and wayerhauser at the end of this season.

Surprised no one has mentioned the issue of theft yet. We had 100 decoys at our lease the weekend before opening AM. Showed up to hunt the opener and they were all gone. For this reason we take the extra 30 minutes to pick them up

I'll have decoys stashed in the woods all over NE TX & SE OK before the seasons over. It seems like we usually lose at least one bag per season. I have to talk my hunting partner out of going on a killing spree every time it happens.
