No, it's true. Other states allow bow fishing, but none allow bow fishing of game fish which is what we're talking about - redfish
I guess someone should let the folks of MS Outdoors know that then...
MS Outdoors
As far as I know, we don't have any saltwater fish that you cannot shoot. What you posted is referring to freshwater gamefish.

Yeah I mean this is not a hill I want to die on. If I'm being honest, the MS regulations are hard as heck to read.
The link I shared says at the top "General Fishing Regulations & Requirements" and then "Fishing License (Saltwater & Freshwater)" so... I take that to mean those are the requirements for both Salt and Fresh water.
But, red drum is not included in the definition of gamefish there. So ????? must be legal to bow fish for redfish there.

Agreed. I couldn't even find a list of saltwater "gamefish" to share. Regardless, you can bow fish for reds in MS. We just don't have the extensive marsh habitat that's conducive for it. I don't care one way or the other about bow fishing, just pointing out that it's not just LA.

I never understood why this was allowed in the first place

I'm trying to understand how flounder gigging is legal.

Mississippi: "Game fish may be taken only by hook and line with one or more hooks (including rod and reel with artificial bait), trot-lines, throwlines, limblines, set hooks, free floating fishing devices(jugs), and yo-yos. Each person having a valid fishing license may use no more than 100 hooks per person."
Mississippi doesn't consider Redfish a gamefish. Only Saltwater gamefish in Mississippi is a Lemon Fish.
