f Louisiana Wildlife & Fisheries managers have their way, wholesale changes are coming to Louisiana deer-hunting seasons — one of the most striking being the re-implementation of designated either-sex days.

So-called “doe days” were ended in 2006, the LDWF said.

The portion of the current Area 1 that is east of the Mississippi River will be designated as Area 4, and managers hope to cut the doe harvest by 30 percent by limiting either-sex hunting to specific days.

If approved, Area 4 hunters would be allowed to shoot does on 33 days: 19 days during the modern-gun season and 14 days during the primitive-weapons season.

I'm Ok with this. Haven't seen many deer last few years

Still going to be plenty of either sex days. Just not all season.

Yeah, my point is that it is harder for people to kill too many does on the weekend, when everyone is hunting, than during the week when everyone is at work.

Doe days are a good concept, conceptually. You cannot implement it over a large area because the ratio changes over basically each section of cities. fricks up errythang. Why don't they just offer DMAP to more people for cheaper prices? Maybe programs like town hall meetings teaching hunters the importance of harvesting for the right ratios

There is more literature and talk on the hunting shows that everybody loves so much about harvest ratios. Ive been saying it the past 3 years. Everybody is buying into the 'Shoot more does" mentality without even knowing if its necessary on their property.Couple this with 100s of acres of what used to be hardwoods and farm land become planted pines and its a disaster for deer numbers. Im happy that the powers that be are seeing the decline in numbers and wanting to do something about it. Would love to see CRP payment increases personally.

Bingo. However it will be hard for them to make one statewide law that will benefit everyone. I'd be okay with them restricting doe kills, and people that feel their property would benefit from more doe kills, they should join DMAP.

Or learn how to hunt better. I hear so many people complain saying ' We need to shoot more does. The bucks dont have to travel to find them" but in the same breath they tell you they saw 12 that morning but didnt shoot because they were sitting in their elevated condo with a heater waiting on a trophy buck to step out.

Ive texted a few people about this change and got negative reactions. Most from people who passed on a doe damn near every hunt or didnt even shoot a doe this year

I'm against the doe day change. Some people may not be able to hunt on those doe days. Others may hunt all season and not see anything until one day a doe comes out and then they can't shoot it because it's not the right day.

If too many does are being taken, reduce the tags from 3 to 2 or 1
