I was looking around on google maps in the spill way and saw that right near airline, there is a boat launch into a long canal in the spillway, and to my surprise the parking lot was completely filled with trucks and boat traillers. Looking at the launch canal to the lake , I did not see a single boat.

So do the boats just use that launch to get to the lake? If so, why not just launch from the casino in Kenner?

Over there, it's people coming from the west side of the spillway or by Ormond

Okay I see, it is just conveience if coming from the west. Do people just run that little canal into the lake then? I found a youtube video where someone was paddling fishing that canal but I think it was just because it was a kanoe instead of a powered boat.

I don't know what they do, but I think it gets pretty shallow up closer to the lake. During hunting season, you can access more of the Spillway by taking that canal since the trails to get to the northern part are usually closed

There are 2 canals that run the spillway to the lake. Haven't had much luck in the lake but there are a few rigs out there as well as a breakers that have some fish. Most of what you see are the crab fisherman and shrimpers that run the lake.

The reserve canal comes out in lake meaurpeax

The two canals on each end of the spillway are called the suction canals. The canal that connects them and goes into the lake is called the crosscut. Really good crabbing during certain times of the year. Fishing isn't great but I've had decent trips during the spawn. I think the launch on Airline is called Camp Memory. You can take the levee on the Norco side all the way to the lake and there is another launch between the interstate.

Just be really careful going into the lake, cypress logs and stumps everywhere.

there is a deep channel a little north east of the point by the launch at the lake. can get some drum in there when the water gets right. it follows the power lines

it's been many years, but that passage from the spillway to the lake is very shallow and full of stumps.
