I never used the American Hero reel, but I have a couple of their rods and really like them. It's a fantastic budget rod. I'm sure the reel is good too. $65 for that combo? Heck, I might have to go pick one up.

Better hurry, they only had one left. It was on clearance for some reason.

It feels very similar to my Abu Garcia Promax, but the Abu is 7.1:1, the Lews is 6.4:1.

Heck, I've been thinking about getting a couple more of the rods at least. Just to set up a couple more crankbait and topwater rigs. I just don't want to spend an arm and a leg for something I won't use that often. But it'll save me time from rigging on the boat, and more time with line in the water.

The only thing I don't like about the "entry level" models from Lew's and Abu etc. is they are usually made with graphite frames. Which is fine. I just don't want them to do most of my heavy lifting. But I like them for certain baits and techniques that I don't use that often.

I have a Sliver Max and Pro Max and they've been great. But they're not my most used.

No. frick that. We are going fishing. Being out there is what I like. Fishing is secondary.

The Promax was the first one I got, so I used it a bunch. Even after I bought my second, I still basically only used the Promax. Haven't had a problem with it yet, other than when I took it apart to clean it, I couldn't get it back together. Had to get someone to do that for me. Learned my lesson. Now I'll just pay someone to clean them for me

I probably use my Lews Laser MG the most, but the Promax would be second.

For the price I paid for the American Hero combo, the reel can be shot in a year and I'll still have the pole, and feel like I got my money's worth.

I pre-ordered this bad boy.

I'm a little pissed. Cause it initially said it would be in stock on Sept. 28th (tomorrow). Now it's saying Nov. 5th. But whatever. I'm putting it on a Denali Kovert Lite 7'4" Hvy Fast rod. Gonna be my new frog rod.

I guess I'll have to continue with what I got until the reel comes in.

It's kind of an early Christmas present to myself.

I was like that too. But I'm slowly building an arsenal. I've learned how to maintain them to get more longevity out of them. So the higher price goes a lot further.

My buddy I go to Lacassine with gets his reels used on ebay for fractions of the cost. He has some nice ones that he got cheap, and he hasn't had any problems yet. I may go that route for my first one or two nicer reels.

All Ebay all the way.

I bought a Curado and a Revo a few months ago for less than 200 bucks total. I baby my reels so it's worth the investment for me. The Curado will ruin you on other reels though.

I have a few cheap rigs that I like, very high on a Browning setup I got on sale at Bass Pro.

Nothing wrong with eBay. I've also ordered them on amazon for much less than in the store. Find the best deal you can.

If you like those Lew's reels, take a step up to the Tournament MB. Aluminum frame, dual cast control, 14# drag, light and low profile. I use mine on my Tx rig rod. Love that reel.

ETA: Yes, Revo's are also very nice. Very similar to Lew's IMO. They're both made by the same factory after all.

Nice!

Piece of advice: when drinking, there is a certain point, depending on speed of consumtion, when you should switch from a bar stool with no back, to one with a back, for safety reasons.
