Know any lawnmower mechanics that make house calls in the Livingston/BR area?

Working through an electrical issue on my riding mower and need some assistance. I turn the key and all I here is a single click or nothing.

Battery is brand new. Low hours. Riding lawnmower - zero turn grasshopper 226v.

I'm thinking it is a safety switch gone bad or some wiring but don't know how to pin down what the issue may be.

Check battery first. Just because it's new doesn't mean it's good.

Could be. Disconnect the switch and wire nut the two wires together. If it works, the switch was bad.

Could also be about 50 other things. Start with the simple stuff.

I like that....Made me laugh. I often find myself in that spot. Try the obvious with lots of hope. When that doesn't work, the depression sets in.

Multimeter is your friend though.

Parking brake set? Blades disengaged? Those can sneak up on you.

Check the battery voltage when you hit the starter. Could have a bad cell, it'll show 12v until a load is applied.

First, turn the ignition key to the “On” position. Look for the large terminal posts on the solenoid where the thick red wires connect to the solenoid. Touch the metal shaft of a screwdriver to both of the large terminals at the same time. If the engine turns over and starts, the solenoid is bad and should be replaced.

The ol jumping the starter solenoid trick.

really easy, just touch across the terminals with the big nuts on them, if the starter solenoid, if the starter works go buy another one, they are only like $10
