I’m struggling getting a knot to hold connecting 20/30 lb braid to 40/50 lb mono. Albright special isn’t holding for me. Any help is appreciated. It’s my first time surf fishing and using line this big.

I use the FG knot thanks to this board. I was thinking yesterday I need to put a new fluro leader on.

FG unless you are using less than 15lb line

FG knot for line to line and a canoe man loop to your bait is the best combo you will ever find

Alberto is quick and easy. Can easily be tied while running in open water.

Alberto knot

I do usually increase the number of wraps to 8 especially if using Superslick Powerpro.

I've used uni to uni for decades without an issue. Easy to tie in under 2 minutes.

For pure strength, double uni. For going through guides, crazy Alberto. If I am doing it the night before and have more time, FG.

Uni or triple surgeons loop, make sure you use a generous amount of donor line or you’ll have slippage.

Cold days work out well for me if the sun hits that shallow water in the surf.

It’s about the only place whiting hang out in cold water in the winter that is nearby.

Use a sabiki rig with the SMALLEST hooks with fishBites or pea-sized cuts of shrimp.

The six hooks on a sabiki doesn’t really attract more fish for me…..what it does is reduces my re-baiting time. When I see that I’m down to four hooks with bait still on….i just toss it back out.

I typically use a modified alberto knot. The modified part is the last pass through the flouro loop is just tripled up. That modification has been a game changer for me. Havent had a knot come undone since. I also occasionally use a surgeons knot which is awesome also, just a little bit thicker than the alberto.

Double Uni has never let me down. Use it for tying onto mono for popping corks. And leaders for surf rigs.

I learned to tie it without having tension on the line and now it's almost as fast as anything else. Probably 30sec if I've been tying it a bunch lately. No longer than a minute if I haven't been on the water in a while.

ETA: FG knot with no tension
