I was reading another thread and thought of something. Why do some work places have restrictions on the length of a knife blade? For example mine at work here is 3". I've seen 4" listed as well. What makes 3" less of an issue than 4"?

I'm just wondering where they get their data to support what the max "safe" length is.

the same place they get what minimum wage should be. It's totally arbitrary.

I know that at my job, if my personal pocket knife is used, it could be bad news for me. They have only the accepted blades for work related applications.

I am an EE contractor.

We have complete knife restrictions because dumbasses cant keep from cutting themselves or stabbing themselves with them.

Some of the statistics on plant injuries before and after knife restrictions is quite alarming.

As for your question, what's the difference between .08BAC and .09....

I have a 4" blade on mine, and when I whip it out in class, people notice. I suspect I wouldn't get that much attention with a 3. It could make people scared or uncomfortable I guess

No pocket knives where I work - only issued safety knives. Lots of trouble to be had if you caught using a non-approved knife.

Some jerkoff HSE manager's need to control.

I almost feel lucky here...I can carry any knife I want to at work.

My office is like a small armory. 9mm in my desk and no knife restrictions. Secretary has a .22 pistol and the owner CC his Lc9. All my ammo and gun parts are shipped to my office. During the gun/ammo craze of 2013 it was pretty interesting with all the ammo and magazines my boss and I had being shipped weekly to the office.

I don't know if we have a knife restriction or not, and I'm not asking. I doubt that we do though. This is alabama and I work with 90% ex-military.

NASA-MSFC has one and we have a lot of former military here too...so that doesn't seem to matter.

When I worked "across the fence" at Aberdeen Proving Ground...there didn't seem to be...there was a chamber operator who carried a buck on his hip daily (at least an 8" blade).
