Supposedly helps with gas mileage too, but I'm skeptical on that one.

I drove my Jeep for the first time in a while last night and the amount of noises coming from every corner is truly mind boggling, and holy shite it rides BAD even after dumping $$$ into it.

Eta: it's still for sale if any of y'all want an extremely reliable vehicle.

Nothing more than a level for me either.

Had enough fun dealing with this front end. Probably my fault though

I drove my green truck to school today after running around in a 2 wheel drive for a month. My back hurts, I couldn't talk on the phone, and rolling down the windows reveals all kinds of creeks and squeeks.

It's a bad SOB, but its DEFINITELY not for driving every day. Even with as much time as I spend off road, I don't find the lift helps a whole lot, especially compared to how much good tires and lockers help.

What the reasoning behind never modifying a truck/leveling it? This is my first truck so I'm relatively new to all this. Thanks.

Because the people who designed that truck designed it to work well and last a very long time the way you drove it off the floor.

The suspension is one of the more complex things on a truck, and messing with it is going to over-stress certain things and wear them out quicker. How much quicker depends on too many things to talk about.

That said, my truck has 170k hard miles and 20 years on a 6" lift. Ball joints, tie rods, and idle/pittman arm last 2-3 years. It creaks, it squeaks, and it rides like a log truck.

The good things about it are that it's VERY nice to work on. There's a ton of room down there and I can actually sit indian style under it in a few places. Obviously I can clear bigger tires and it has substantially more articulation, along with lots of ground clearance. It's definitely an advantage off road.

For a daily driver though, I couldn't justify it again. It's great at first, and then a year later you're driving a creaky noisy truck that you still owe a bunch of money on and have to stretch to get into and out of. Turning radius usually sucks, gas mileage suffers due to bigger tires, drive through windows are a PITA, it doesn't fit in some car washes, doesn't fit in any parking garages, and the advantages off road are definitely not worth the increased pain in the arse unless you ahve something else to drive to work and back every day.

That's just my opinion though

Suspension is not designed t be at those angles. Extra wear on everything, especially ball joints, tie rods, hubs, and as CP3 was so kindly to show, CV joints. Most also decrease your suspension travel, and some decrease ground clearance.

Only way to lift an independent suspension truck and have it be okay would be to get custom coilovers and upper/lower control arms with joints that can handle the angles to correct what the lifts do.

I am not a big fan of blocks in the back either. Axle wrap and premature bending of stock leafs.

Hope that was enough. Been staring at the computer doing homework for the past 2 hours.

I would rather stuff the biggest/widest tire under a truck without lifting it, and putting a Detroit in the back

Thank you! That talks me out of getting a leveling kit.

ETA: Thanks Hammertime.

Honestly a leaving kit won't be too bad. Just don't get the 2.5" or 3" and you won't notice a difference.

My pic was a 6" lift with the front cranked up about as high as it goes. A leaving kit won't be anywhere close to that bad.

I'm not trying to talk you out of it. I'm just over it now.

A mild level isn't going to make the front end of your truck fall apart in a week or anything. I wouldn't be scared of anything 2" and under.

Keep in mind I have a 6" lift in the front, 1 ton torsion bars, a locker, a huge arse very heavy front bumper, a 12000 lb winch, and wide tires with alot of offset. Mine is very far beyond just a leveling kit and I don't find the front end repairs to be all that bad

Just do your homework. A leveling kit is very easily taken off if you don't like it.

Leveling kit, meh. People run them forever without major problems other than increased wear on "consumables" like joints. It's not going to completely wreck a truck. If you do, make sure you get it aligned pretty often. It'll save your tires

If you do get one, do it yourself. It's like training a dog. You'll get to know your truck much better, progressively try more and more things, and feel better about yourself when you are done with it. You can notice and stop many things before they become big problems by just poking around.

Eta: don't know where you are, but I'm sure an OB'er or two wouldn't mind being a supervisor

This. Either go all out and get a suspension lift with shocks and everything to correct your angles or go with a 1.5" or 2" level.

Might just sit on it a while and try to do some more research. I wouldn't do anything more than level the front, 2 or 2.5.

That's the best idea. F150Forum is a good place to do a lot of research and see pictures and all. Good luck.
