We have put in over off of Womack road near Hoo Shoo Too. There is a bridge that you can launch from. We went from there to Freds. It took several hours and was a good trip. There are several beach areas that you can stop at rest/hangout at.
If you google map Womack road in Baton Rouge and look at the satalite view, you will see the bridge. There is a drive on the north side of the canal/bayou and there is a small launch just past the fence line. Of course, we didn't find that until we had already carried the kayaks under the bridge to launch them. I'm not sure if there is a gate or not, but you can always launch from under the bridge.

Hey WT, you headed to Destin when the semester is over?

I was slightly off in my directions. The Bridge is off of S. Tiger Bend just north of Bengal Court. Launch at that bridge and head east. Once you hit the Amite, head south. You can see the various beaches on the google satellite view.
I hate to ruin the suprise, but you will come across a house you just don't expect to see. You'll know it when you see it!
I can't do this week, but I'm up for a paddle as well.
Side Note: Bluz Cruz kayak race in Vicksbug, MS is the weekend. 22 miles down the MS river. I'll be there. Should be fun they have a music festival and street party in conjection with the Kayak/canoe event.
