Been toying with the idea of getting a kamado for a while. Got a bonus and a refund check yesterday along with a shite day at work. Got in touch with my feminine side and did a little retail therapy . Opted for the Big Green Egg. No stand, just the table nest for use with a wooden table. I've got rough plans, but was wondering what the OB has come up with.

Probably going to stay rather small (48" long) due to a nook in the patio where I will put it. Going to have caster wheels to move it around. Don't have great set of finishing tools like a router or anything.

It's a large egg

That table needs to be built stout and the caster wheels need to be heavy duty. Don't install a wood top, you will end up betting burn marks on it

That sounds ridiculous. I've had a wooden top on mine for 2.5 years and not a single burn to be found. However, I did not stain mine, and it is starting to weather.

What ya need? I've had my buddy make two of them for me and they were for large eggs.

2x4s and 1x4 are all he used. They're holding up great with outdoor stains.

You can go to a granite place and ask for a piece to place under or you can buy the mini stand legs that GE sells.

You'll love that thing.

I got the table stand BGE sells. Think it was $30, so I didn't sweat it too much. I'm doing 2x4's everywhere including bottom shelf, and 1x6 for the top. Probably just going to paint the bottom, but I'll stain the top.

Got some wheels off amazon that are rated to 200+ lbs per caster.

I did granite on my first primo table. That shite was so heavy it was hard to move. I bought my second table from a guy in pensacola who makes them. I think it was a couple hundred bucks and is cypress.

In laws got the table bge sells and that thing is a piece of crap.

Theirs doesnt move so I'm building one out of concrete blocks with concrete countertops.

Going to paint it white and stain the concrete tops some brownish color to try to match their decking.

Stupid rain making it take forever.

This is mine. As I mentioned it is stained cypress and I think it was around $250.

I built one (Painted official LSU Purple and Gold) and it's worked out really well. It cost around $100 to build, 12 beers and a weekend.

I pretty much plan to do that exact table, except use 2x4's in an "L" shape for the leg instead of 4x4's. Even down to the towel hanger . I'll probably cut the hole off to the left side though. And I'll be using pine for everything at the bottom and just paint it hunter green or something. Then cedar for the top.

Anyone have or seen a triangle table I would like to back mine up into the corner of my porch. But don't won't to build a permanent one there because it's out in the elements

One reason was got a good deal. The other reasons are:

Larger cooking area
Taller cooking area
Firebox divider for true indirect cooking
Made in the USA
The shape in my opinion allows for more efficient use of space

That's about it.

I'm leaning towards the primo for those reasons exactly. Everyone I know that has the kamado style cooker has the BGE and are calling me crazy.

How long have you had it? Any issues?

Several years. Don't remember exactly how long. I replaced the gasket with a high temp gasket and I cracked the firebox which has a lifetime warranty.

Why would they call you crazy for selecting a grill that is superior? No need to worry about multiple racks of spare ribs fitting without having to cut them, full packer briskets, the ability to simultaneously do direct and indirect cooking, etc.

BGE is a very nice grill. Primo is just better, IMO.

The one advantage of BGE that I see is heating a little quicker due to its smaller size. If that's a concern, I would go with the large oval instead of XL.

This is what I ended up with. Could have just bought one after taking two stabs at the table top. Tried with my jigsaw at first, but the cut was too nasty (curved ends that I decided weren't worth the hastle the second time ). More wood and a new router really put it over the top (would have been about 120 otherwise). But at least I got to bitch, moan, and sweat my arse off in the garage

Almost every table I see has 4x4's for legs. I can brace up the shelf more, but I just can't see that I need it. I've stood in there and bounced around and I'm at about 180 right now. Felt solid to me. Can't see why 2x4s couldn't hold ~200 lbs total.

Egg installed
