I've found a flat bottom canoe with a push pole works best. My pirouge is rivited so gets stuck very easily even with push pole. Haven't invested in a canoe yet, so my hunts in Joyce have been far and few in between.

Would one of those cheap-o plastic rigs from Dick's work? Do pirogues have an advantage over canoes?

Yeah anything with a flat bottom. I've always used a pirogue, maybe because I'm from south LA and that's all I've had. My buddy uses a canoe and can fit almost anything in it and fly past me. I think the only difference is stability. Canoes have flimsy sides, and pirogues can either be fiberglass, or aluminum, whichever, but both are sturdy. Pirogues are just my preference, but canoes are my buddy's thing.
