I've got a fever to get one of these. Especially an old YJ. I currently drive a '10 Tacoma that's 4 door and 4wd.

What are the pros and cons to swapping. i miss the days of driving a 5-spd when i was in high school. if i get one, i'll be getting rid of my tacoma.

What are the pros/cons of doing this?

Swapping a Tacoma for a YJ as a DD? No way in hell. I wouldn't trade a TJ for a Tacoma and a TJ is a much better DD than a YJ. There a literally zero pros to a YJ.

Just buy a damn YJ and have 2 vehicles.

I have a GMC Sierra and just recently bought a 2000 TJ because I've been wanting another Jeep after trading in my 05. Found it for cheap. Needs some work but I'm slowly getting it taken care of myself. So I have a family truck and a weekend toy for me.

I'd say any of the models with the 3.6 pentastar. jk for sure. they ride/drive far better from all I've read as well. i have the jk, and I can attest for it being -nothing- like the excoriated reviews it always gets from literally any written article. they always hate on its on road performance. go drive one at a dealership. then go find a used jk that was a mall crawler, less hard miles that way.

jeeps are rad. but i wouldn't recommend the old models for a DD.

the new engine is a huge improvement
honestly my wife's 4 door you usually can't even put it in 6th unless you are doing 80 on the interstate. She puts 80 miles a day on it and loves it. Easily the best vehicle purchase I've made

A yj as a dd would be a horrible idea unless you drive about 10 miles or less.

My wife has a 05 TJ 4.0 6 speed. She'll be buried in that damn thing. She loves it, I hate it. It rides like a jeep, burns gas like a jeep, is noisy like a jeep, she spends too much money on accessories like jeep owners do, there's no room, and you gotta shift it all the time. I know, I'm just an old bitching fart, but I could never have just a jeep. You got to really like jeeps to drive one every day. With that being said, the 4.0 has a good bit of power. Definitely don't get the 4cyl if you get one.

If you're using it as a daily driver, I would look for a JK if you're set on a Jeep... particularly one with a hard top. I own a JKU with a hardtop, a CJ7 with no top and a Tacoma for what it's worth.

But then again I drove that damn CJ7 back in the 80's and 90's all over the damn place with no a/c or heater and rarely with the top or doors on it. Just depends what you like... and how old you are.

X2. Drove a lifted '80 CJ7 with a 350 back in those days too. I loved that Jeep and will get another one after I get #1 squared away in college next year. However, it will not replace my Tundra as an everyday driver but will be a garage queen that might get out to go get stuck every now and again.

this is going to sound like a troll, but i'm serious. that's the exact reason why i want a YJ. i like the look of it better.

however, there is a red sport addition in a '98 model here in town. the guy wants $8k for it. it's 5 spd and looks great for being almost 20 yrs old. not sure what i should pay for one.

Well I'm not going to tell you your opinion is wrong, but I can understand liking the different look.

I really don't mind them either, but I'd prefer a CJ or a TJ unlimited first. JK would be last on my list.

Does that sport have the 4cyl or the 4.0l?
