I mowed for the first time this year yesterday and today I feel like I'm dying. This started last year with the allergies every time I cut the yard. Anyone else experience this and can recommend a quality respirator/mask that they've had success with to prevent it?

If it's that bad, I would just pop an allegra or something before cutting. Unless it's a full face mask, you're still going to get it in the eyes.

I hate lawn mowing time...

I never had issues with allergies until I moved to Louisiana. My doc suggested mowing in mask and using safety glasses or sun glasses that cover most of the eye. Also suggested 1000mg of Vitamin C every morning. All three absolutely help. I can tell the following day when I forget my mask. I just use the cheap masks and they work even if not completely sealed to my face... its a hell of a lot better than going without.

My worst times are in the fall when chopping up leaves. Second worse time is coming up with Spring pollen.

Find a local bee keeper and get some honey from him, eat a tsp a day.

Otherwise a basic dust mask and goggles will help you.

I've heard this. I need to track one down and try it this year.

Good tips AutoYes. I'll grab some Vitamin C. I've been doing zyrtec but I could use it more regularly. I'll get some cheap masks too. I'm willing to try anything.

I take the 24hr allergy pills, pop one about 12hrs prior and another one an 1hr prior. standard respirator and glasses, then shower right after. seems to do the trick, most of the time

Never cut without glasses on.
Make sure you mow where the wind doesnt blow grass dust back on you.
Keep benadryl and eye drops on you at all times

I cut baseball fields for a living and have worst allergies possible. In march/april when pollen falls, after i cut i cant open my eyes

I have the same issues and have not found a respirator yet that will keep me from sneezing...

one thing that did help a ton last year was using Nasacort spray from about march to june...really changed my life. I still have to stay away from the pollen whenever I can, but I am no longer just sick from the shite after I cut grass.

A better solution is why in the hell are you cutting the grass in February?? Don't cut for another month or so that would help!

Pop a Claritin before bed time then cut in the morning while the grass is still wet. This will cut the dust a bunch. Wear glasses and a bandana around your nose and mouth. Just clean your mowing deck after.

You're welcome.
