Can't really tell each year the leaves climb a bit higher on it so I haven't cut it.

What about this one?

I know I have 4 more dead ones around, 2 that could hit the house. I got the wife drunk enough to agree to let me get after it with a chainsaw tomorrow. Butt stuff is next.

Am I crazy to try to drop them myself? Obviously dead, maybe 40 feet high. Would barely hit the house if it did.

I'm thinking I'll ratchet strap it in the direction I want it to fall and then do the whole cut a wedge in it then cut the other side. Any tips besides hire someone and pay them 1000 bucks.

Quit drinking for 24 hrs. Get your ratchet strap and freshen up on geometry and go for it.

I'll be tuning into this thread later for sure.

Seriously tho, unless the tree already wants to go in the direction you want it to a ratchet strap is a poor method of pulling a tree over. If you're going to pull it over a couple guys and a rope tied way up the the tree is a good way. Problem with ratchet is you can get it tight but when the tree starts to move it will go limp and be almost useless. You need a continuous pull while the tree is moving.

My butt or hers? No judgement man, you do you.

All seriousness, if I could get them down in my yard without hitting my house then that's a huge win. If I can get them down without fricking too much of my own stuff up without hitting anything of my neighbors then that's also a win. No idea what a tree guy will charge but I assume it ain't cheap.

I did that once. I had a little peach stump that I wanted to pull up. Tied up close and the knot slipped. Instead of backing up I simply pulled more rope out and tied up again. The peach stump--more like a softball sized knot--landed on my dash!! Would have hurt had it hit my head.

Tie up very close when pulling stumps!!

Wonder if you cut the tree about half way up and fell that first and then cut it at the stump?? would need a safety harness and good climbing equipment.
