I understand what you're saying but if you do some research you will find that turtle is probably double that age.

While I love a good bowl of turtle soup, I couldn't sacrifice a turtle that has lived for 50 years or more. Got to respect the wildlife on occasion.

I don't understand this at all. What does age have to do with it, and if age does have anything to do with it, isn't taking older ones better?

Sounds like some Phil Robertson shite. They have only done about 8 episodes of DD concerning killing beavers.

To be honest it is something that I have never put much thought into until I became a land owner. To go out on our land and see trees dying from the water that the beavers are holding made me nervous and I'm not the kind of guy that gets nervous. I declared war!

The majority of turtle soup in restaurants isn't made with turtle meat.

I'm 95% positive that Palace Café in NOLA doesn't use real turtle meat

There is a difference in being a hunter and an outdoorsman. It's a respect factor. I let the big ones walk/swim, and only take the small better eating ones. I don't kill to show off and post pictures.

One is better?

Respect's got nothing to do with it. BTW, that isn't a fish. Do you let old deer walk as well?

I don't kill turtles because I was taught how to catch/kill critters that are way better to eat than turtles.

Really though, I have never eaten turtle so it is kind of like someone throwing white perch back because they don't know how to clean them and don't know if they are good to eat.

I never argued otherwise. One day I will catch a turtle while I have a coony guest around and I'm sure we will break out the wooden spoons. I have cookers, pots, spoons, and rice readily available at my camp. I just need a turtle cleaner and a turtle cook.

What does the wooden spoon thing even mean?

Haha, from the water boy movie. I've got no problem using one, I just choose to let the big boys, old timers live. I get the same enjoyment letting them walk/swim away as I do bringing the smaller ones home for dinner.

I understand that is some contexts. Not in this one at all.

Killing something that may be more than a century old just doesn't sit right with me. If you can, why not just take the younger tastier one?

Who says the younger ones are more tasty? The older one is closer to death. You've just prevented the young one from ever becoming this magestic old beast. Enjoy your button bucks.

Again it's the respect factor. Some get it, some don't. Ha, you should love people like me, we save all your "trophies!"

The respect thing makes no sense. Sure, don't strap you deer across your hood with the tongue hanging out.

Respect for the old?

You mean to tell me you'd rather kill a young midget than an old midget? The young one has so many more chances to create little christmas elves. The old ones just shoot out a poof of lucky charms dust
