Did most of my offshore fishing in a regulator. Not nearly as stable, but took a chop well. I also don't get seasick, so never saw the appeal of a cat. Just seemed slow. But I know they have come a long way. Not claiming they aren't awesome.

I'll just never spend that much on a center console. Or any boat, but still. I'm going sport fisher on anything past 35 foot for sure. And even for price. A 10-20 year old sport fisher might not be the fastest boat ever, but I can sleep on a comfy bed sleeping off a 12 pack while number 2 captains.

I'm thinking a 40 or 50ft Viking. Tough to beat air condition

I will say I've done a lot of fishing off a 31 Cape Horn. It's a solid boat @conundrum.

Also been in 32 contender chirping 300s going 20mph. That was a sloppy day, but hey we swept CHS rodeo

In a freeman you could cruise 60mph in 4ft seas and not even spill your beer.

There's a freeman 37 with twin 627s on Orange Beach I've seen run before that is truly jaw dropping.

The guys at J&M said 7 Marine has sent their crew out multiple times to fix issues at this guys dock/house on Marina Road.

Pretty impressive.

BTW, the 42LR fully outfitted is probably north of $650k.

Also, Barker Boatworks is developing a cat right now. We are about to see a revolution towards cat boats IMO.

there definitely is new stuff being built like the cat inshore style bay boats. But a 24ft will run about 100K fully loaded.

I agree with you, but the appeal is the trailer ability. Can't trailer a 35+ ft sport fisher.

I personally can't imagine not have a state room and a couple bunks for overnight/ weekend trips on a boat with a price tag of $500k+. But hey if you are local and just do day trips, why not.

The 627's suck. Every boat I've seen them on has been at the shop.

Grigsby's Freeman with 627's sat at Outcast for months at a time

The one and only time I fished for tuna, it was in a sport fisher. I was wishing the whole time we were in just about any other type of boat. Such a PITA to cast out the back of it.

Sad part is that a 33 Freeman has more fishing room than a 50+ ft sport fisher not to mention a 40knt cruise versus a 20 knt Give me a big center console over a sporty any day. Save the money from the sportfisher and buy a nice camp to come back to since you can run anywhere you want to fish on the Freeman and make it a day trip.

I never fished off a freeman but have owned a 27ft worldcat and if it rides any magnitude better than that hull you would be hard pressed to find something better for the GOM.

Not many sportfishers cruise at 20 knots, the 92 Viking can cruise over 30 knots. And if you are planning on just fishing one place all the time then a center console is probably best for that. but if you want to take your boat to more than one place then a sportfisher is nice. you can go to south florida, gulf coast, Bahamas, Bermuda, Carolinas, etc and have a boat and a place to stay.
