Choupique, where was your camp? We used to use and take care of the camp in the corner of the lake near smith bayou.

When my dad had his seafood dock in Venice in the 80's-90's, there was two of them caught in the same trip over 13lbs a piece (can't remember exact weights- will have to ask my dad). My dad contacted the wildlife and fisheries to see if they had any records on biggest trout caught in net and they told him they had seen them bigger caught in nets in Texas.

duck season 1988 around christmas I remember several people talking about 13lb trout caught in a net by a guy that lived on trappers canal

Hmm......so you take the shell road off of Hwy.23, do you mean the first little bayou you come to when driving down to the main marina? If so, my cousin had a camp down there and I spent a lot of weekends down there as well.

What side of the road were you on? My cousin was on the side closest to Bay Laurier, but I we knew people up and down that little bayou. I remember fishing in that little bayou when we'd get back from fishing and catching freshwater cats, perch, and bass. Also remember going all the way back and riding four wheelers along the levees around the crawfish ponds.

While commercial fishing with my friend back in the 90's, he caught an 11 pound white trout. He didn't enter it because it wasn't fair.

Do you remember mr. Harold at the end of the bayou? Fished with him a hunch, was probably the best red fisherman I ever fished with. I don't remember goats. I used to go down to this old timers at the very back of the bayou (I think Bob was his name) and kill the bass off his dock fishing beetle spins.

I talked to Mr. Jerald and he would not confirm or deny any reports or rumors of any larger trout caught in any fashion in Louisiana. We did, however, have a very interesting conversation about this "record" fish though.
