Is it hard to find? May have to go check it out one day.
Very easy to find and almost no traffic. The state dredged long corridors when they built to bridges and there is shoreline right next to the bridges. It is easy to fish because it goes from 0 to 8-12 feet right off the side. If you flip a worm on the bank and pull it off it will sink to the bottom and all of the bass sit along the edges waiting for worms and bugs to do the same thing.

Yes
But only if you have a go pro on your head.

normal gators do not bug you, but the gay ones are bad about molesting you, especially younger paddlers.
I've never had any gators bug me, they all slip away or under the water. When they go under the boat I get a bit nervous though. I might be worried in an area where people feed them.

Here is a map. I don't know how to save my zoom in but look at the area that says Loyola and there is a visible canal. Zoom in on the canal and you will see all of the water under the interstate bridges.

Nobody fishes there because there is an underwater dam that is about 6 inches to 2 feet under water and will knock the hull out of any boat that tries to run across it. I used to stop my flat boat and drag it across because I knew it was there. Also keep in mind that there are A LOT of gators because the canals see so little traffic. The best way in with a yack is to drive under the I-10 to the levee wall. Lift the yack over the wall and jump the wall yourself and you will be right under I-10. That is where you want to fish, under the bridges.

This is the other reason you won't find me in a kayak, ever. I was born at night, but it damn sure wasn't last night. I don't have any business slipping around something that is bigger than me and wants to eat me.

Thanks, I'll have to give it a try one day

You fish it by land with any luck?

You can't get under the bridge area that is dredged on land so I am not so sure how you would do. Just drive down Veterans to the end and go under I-10. You will see the levee wall, it is not very high, and you can jump it and see everything. That body of water runs all the way to the Spillway and does not end as it appears on the map.

How you gonna get back there in a yak ?

You need to worry more about zombie beavers

Look at the area called Duncan Canal, all of this time I did not knwo that it had a name. Jump the levee wall at the end of Veterans and you are right there. It is the easiest and shortest trip in the metro area not counting city park.

you'll be fine
we swim and kayak all the time in bayou lacombe and never had a problem with gators. there's a big one that lives around our house and he's never bothered us when we're swimming

Well, who can really blame the gator?
Seriously, I've kayaked around gators in an inflatable kayak with no trouble.

I'm pretty familiar with the canal and have spent a bunch of time back there as a kid. I've always called it parish line canal and skied in there quite often when the lake was too rough. Have you jumped the wall before ? I've never been down all the way to Vets but have dealt with that wall plenty times between Vintage and the lake. We built a little dock back there as kids. The drop on the backside is much further than the frontside. I would think it would be impossible to throw a kayak and gear back over that wall.
I've done much easier trips that don't involve hopping walls down the street from the Kenner PD.

There is a slop up to the wall under the interstate and you can see it if you look at the overhead view on MSN. I did it with a flat boat many years ago but have never done it with a yak. I have also, more recently, run down the canal in a flatboat afer launching at the Kenner boat launch but I had a 60 on the back and it was a quick trip. I wouldn't want to paddle down the canal running from the lake.
I love the area because it is the most secluded place to go close to the city and actually be able to catch bass in my opinion. I really enjoy it back there.
