A buddy and I are headed up to Quincy, Illinois in Adams county, right north of Pike county Nov. 5th -10th to go deer hunting on his family's farm. We also have a pheasant hunt trip booked, and going duck hunting one of the mornings.

I know its the weekend of the LSU/Alabama game, but I couldn't pass up a trip like this

This is my first time going to hunt in Illinois, so any advice on what to expect, besides it being cold, will be greatly appreciated.

I have been hunting in Illinois the 2nd - 3rd week for about 7 or 8 yrs or so. You will soon realize why almost all whitetail hunting shows are filmed in the midwest. It really is like tv. I have always said if you can kill a doe in Alabama with a bow, you can kill a mature buck anywhere else in the states. I imagine LA isn't much different. Good luck. Oh yeah, don't pass up what you would shoot on the last day.

Agreed. The only thing that makes them "professional" hunters is the access to awesome private land. Anybody can kill deer in the Midwest.

Be ready to hunt small wood patches that you would never consider down here.

Deer there will move across open fields ANYTIME of day not just at first light and last light.

Bring a rangefinder, when taking a 200 yard shot across open fields with a smokepole knowing how far you are shooting is huge.

Rattle and grunt often, it really works there, you will be in Pre Rut and depending upon weather possibly early rut.

Only other caveat corn cutting is WAY behind this year so you may have standing crops everywhere if you do that is a MAJOR detriment to the hunting there.

First year we went a guy told us to hunt a patch of woods that I would only try to rabbit hunt, my buddy killed a nice 9 point in it.

Last year we saw 2 150" deer crossing the middle of a 300 acre cut cornfield at 11am

Well it's finally here. We leave today at around 8:00 tonight, driving through the night. Should arrive there around 7-8 tomorrow morning. Going to be filming the hunts, hopefully we get some good footage.

Ready to get there and start seeing some big deer, as well as shoot some pheasant and ducks. I will try and post some pictures while I'm up there.

my boss is there. they got there Saturday. he sent me a picture of a deer he killed on Monday. big body, heavy horned 8 pt. He is at a high dollar place. now all he can shoot is does. if you can only shoot one buck, skip the 8 points.

8 pts are a dime a dozen. Especially in TX millerman. BIG ones are ok I guess.

Yea I'm pretty freaking pumped. Even though I'm only allowed to shoot a doe on my buddy's family's property, I think I will be just as excited as my buddy if he ends up shooting a big buck, especially if we get it on film.

Hopefully I will be able to bring back a nice pheasant, and a green head to get mounted.

12:00 can't get here fast enough. Ready to get off work and finish getting the truck packed up.

I'm heading out to Wisconsin on the 20th. Been going since 1997. The rut is just kicking off and my friends have been killing some really nice bicks this past week. Like 180" nice for one of them. Don't worry about the small patches of woods, it works there. If they are picking corn and you can hunt around it in some woods, do it!!

Sorry for taking a waiting to update. We got in late last night, and internet and cell phone reception was unheard of where we were staying. As far as deer hunting, I wasn't able to get as much film as I would have liked, the only deer i really got on film was a the biggest spike I've ever seen.

Since my buddy paid a lot of money for a buck tag, and had not shot yet, he opted to back out on the pheasant hunt, so I went by myself, and it was a blast, ended up bringing one of the roosters home to get mounted

Sunday night, I made pheasant bombs, marinaded in a Caribbean jerk marinade with brown sugar. Cooked them in the oven, and finished them on that griddle.
