Pow pow passed down great pow pow's hunting rifle. They both brought me up in the outdoors, hunting and fishing. I've seen this gun lay the smackdown on deer. Great pow pow passed away in '05, so this gun is very special to me.

Old Springfield 30-06. Was sporterized in the 60s I think he said.

Sweet shooting rifle. Shot one many times. I passed down a Browning Sweet sixteen to my grandson that was my Dad's. Showroom condition. I have a doublebarrel 12 ga that was my FIL's grandpaw's gun. That will be passed to my next grandson, if I ever get one.

BC, with that much heritage it could be a POS and I'd hang it anywhere I could to see it daily.

Sweet gun!!
I have a Winchester pre-64 Model 70 in 30-06. Built in the 40's passed to me from my Father. I use it today and it remains the tact driver it always was.
Enjoy your rifle

Thanks fellas it will be taken out on occasion but be well taken care of. I'm curious about the age. I'm sure the interweb can help with that.

03's are the greatest actions ever. Yours is an A3 by the looks of the trigger guard. Look around gun shows or parts suppliers and get a trigger guard assembly from an 03-those are solid machined and look a lot better than the stamped one on your gun.

If this list is accurate, this rifle was originally made in 1942. Pretty cool.

That is about right on it's age. Back in the 1960's, the US government started clearing out those rifles. Everybody was selling them for around $75. Also, tons of 7MM and 8 MM rifles came on the market. One could take it to a gunsmith to have the bolt handle bent, scope mounts tapped and have the rail sights removed for next to nothing. Some would even recut the barrel a bit shorter, glass bed a new stock and do a trigger job. Sweet rifles.
