Either you are really miserable at your current job or you haven't put in any fence in a while.

Good luck! Really, we are always looking for experienced hands to run skidders, cutters, loaders and chippers. There is a timber harvester school at the votech in Winnfield.

How much does the training for something like this run? Once you have the training, do you need like some sort of apprenticeship or something to get started? I'm sure a big company isnt hiring you right out of school.

did it for 5 years, you will work long hours and make little money, or if the weather is bad you won't work at all and make no money.
ran chainsaw, skidder, shear and drove log truck some.

I wanna be a logger
Same thing as saying,
-I want to work 12 a day
-I want to worry about getting crushed by heavy equipment all day.
-I want to have nightmares about getting crushed.
-I want to be physically exhausted every day.
-I never want to see my family
-I never want to make a good living
-I want to starve in the winter
-I want arse holes with no education to be my boss
-I want to run a chainsaw all fricking day.
-I want to have health problems later in life
Sounds like a solid plan.

Go out and rent a 250+ hp tractor and buy one of these. LINK
When everyone else is cleaning up the "old school" way by pushing stumps with a bulldozer, windrowing and burning stumps, taking a excavator to remove stumps that didn't burn on windrow(they NEVER burn completely up), and having a dump truck haul debris away from location or possible landfill, you can do it all yourself with a tractor and tiller. No 4,5,6 man operation anymore. One pass with forestry tiller and your done. Your welcome for everyone's business that was doing it the other way and that is EVERYONE.

Timberland Investment Groups are the way to go if you're going to work in the timber bidness.

I got an offer there, but decided I wanted to be in the woods 100% of the time, and I didn't want to move to fricking Mansfield
