Your gun is found in connection with a crime, its in your name. You wouldnt be assumed guilty but its just extra headache and questions that could be avoided.

Guns are not registered in your name.

You left your truck unlocked with your gun inside? Come on man.

I have to admit that I am terrible about doing this. I have gotten better in the last couple of weeks when I woke up at 2:00 am with an epiphany . "Hey dumbass you not only have a gun in your unlocked truck but your house keys in the console."

and to further add, carrying my gun in and out all the time of my vehicles will cause my kids to notice and be aware of said guns. I have a near 7 and a 5 yr old, they are clueless of my gun in my truck, i'm not jeopardizing their life and causing awareness and dangerous situations

I whole heartedly disagree with this. I have a 7, 5, and 2 year old and the 7&5 year old know about my guns and not to touch them or any other guns they might find at a friends house while playing. They also shoot and do a "gun school" with me several times per year where we go over gun safety, parts of a gun, identifying different guns, etc.

Take the mystery and excitement away from firearms at a early age and I feel it leads to a much safer environment.

Did you report it stolen and give the serial number to state police

Yeah I reported it along with all the pertinent info. Mainly in case it ends up at a pawn shop I might actually have a shot at getting it back. When I spoke with the police at 7:45 on the morning of, they already had 2 suspects and were about to execute a search warrant. Apparently it's not the first time this has happened in my area even though my little town is a very safe place

Damn, my garage door would wake the dead it's so damn loud.

And I used to take my guns out of the truck every night, before I lost them all in the boating accident.

that's a bunch of bullshite. I do take the mystery out of me having and owning guns and my kids know where most of my rifles are etc. but they do not need to know where all my pistols are at this time nor does a 5 year old need to be tempted in any way shape or form.

Knowing where your guns are and being familiar with them takes away the temptation. Let them shoot your pistols and the will have a healthy respect/fear for them.

you don't leave a load pistol in a house with a 5 yr old no matter what you've trained and told him not to do. bringing a gun in and out twice on a daily basis for fear of someone stealing a $500 gun is retarded imo.

It's not the fear of losing a gun as much as the fear that my negligence could result in the shooting of an innocent person. If you don't want to bring your gun in and out then lock it up in the truck.

I do, but when it's inside it is locked in a safe (except my CC which doesn't have a round in the chamber).

Depends on your situation. I leave my truck gun in my truck at all times, but I park in my garage and don't live in a neighborhood so my situation is different.

but anytime you go anywhere, truck guns are meant to stay in truck. hopefully ones home is the safest place where people's vehicles stay. if you can't take your gun out everytime you leave house, why worry about it at home... its rhetorical, don't answer /

This, absolutely.

You're not doing your kids any favors by keeping them away from those "icky" firearms. You need to educate them, because they are eventually going to find your guns.

Don't live with your head in the sand.
