...on the stand.

I believe that deer can smell thermacells - I tried to not fire it up but had to. Bugs were so bad I had to spray off.....of course, once I sprayed the off, I did not see another deer.

It has been a brutally hot bow season so far....we need a rain and some cool weather asap.

all that said, it was good to climb my old arse up and get on a lock on and watch mother nature....I did have a broadside shot at a button buck...I let him walk.

That's why you use the earth scent pads, baw.

Deer can smell everything. Unless you're chewing on a wad of cypress needles of some other leaf, the thermacell is the least of your worries.

Deer can smell thermacells. Yes. But if they bolt they likely smelt you.

I'm sure they can smell thermacells, but what's worse;

Deer smells thermacell if he catches the right wind, or

Deer smells your body odor if he catches the right wind AND you are swatting at mosquitoes all hunt adding movement for the deer to and and being much more aggravated.

I choose the first answer.

I'm sure they can smell it, but I used one for the first time last weekend and I could not imagine not having it. And, the 3 of us got 4 deer (all w/in 100 yards) in those 2 days.

Use the Thermacell and take your chances. My thought is that they might smell the Thermacell, but they definitely see me swatting mosquitos.

Cover your entire body, head to toe, with damp mud.

Report back if that worked.

I’ve killed 2 doe this bow season each of which were 15-20 steps from me. Neither had a clue I was there.

I’ve had some bust me over the years, but I’m never hunting without a Thermacell again. I haven’t tried the earth scent yet because I’ve had such good luck with the original.

I also keep all of my camo in a dry bag with earth scent, so I go in the woods smelling like dirt.

If a deer smells your thermacell it is downwind and would smell you anyway

Next August, start putting your shirts around your stand, and monitor with a game cam. Get them used to your musk

A thermacell is a damn miracle device as far as I am concerned. I have literally had a cloud of mosquitoes around me in a duck blind and the minute you light the thermacell, they are gone. I am just not interested in hot-weather hunting without one.

ETA: Now, if I could just find a thermacell pad that would ward off the Ole Miss fans tonight in Oxford!

Shannon Outdoors bug tamer plus double guard suit works like a champ if you are worried about them smelling your therma cell. Found the suit on ebay for $140 cheapest I could find. You can honestly wear shorts and short sleeves under it. Just make sure it is not pulled tight to your skin in any spots when you sit down.

More than just for early season bow hunting for me. Sadly they get year round use from me. Most of the year, to properly enjoy my patio, I’ll have up to three of them lit at once.

Thermocell definitely works, but I try not to use it as much as possible. Thin Hat, face mask, and gloves do the trick. Only turn the therm on if they are getting in my eyes.
