Can someone please give me some good updates how this elevation project is going? Are they driving pilings yet? Are they working on all 3 at once? Estimated time of completion?

Pics would be AWESOME.

Heading to the camp next weekend after a long winter lay off

They are working on all 3 right now (at least, as of Saturday afternoon when I drove it). The bridges are down to 1 lane each, the construction company has temporary traffic lights at each bridge to control the flow. The one by Elmer's Island had the most heavy equipment activity, but even that didn't look too productive.

Damn... So, no change really since the Spring.

Thanks for the reply guys.

But I'd still like to hear from local residents $/or contractors directly dealing with construction folks. Curious on your opinions of the project.

How much higher will they be?
Enough for a CC to get under? ;)

I really don't think that they are elevating those three bridges. It certainly does not look like it from what I saw last weekend. The work will supposedly be finished by the summer, but good luck with that. It will be a cluster frick come spring when most folks start going to their camps again. I think that I will turn over the driving to my wife at the first bridge and start the beer drinking early.

If the are precast beam and precast deck with just the slab being poured in place they will go up quickly after the piling is driven and the caps and abutments poured. 7 days after that the beams can be set and the deck the next day if they can get it all there that quickly. The final pour will have to sit for 7 to 28 days depending on the job spec.

Not elevating Fourchon to Grand Isle. Next phase of elevated highway is Leeville to Golden Meadow and that has not started. What they are now working on are the three small bridges right before you get to Grand Isle .

My neighbor has a bait shop and lives down there. He said they were planning to elevate it between G.I. and Fourchon. Hmmmm??

I thought the LV to GM project was next, but figured they were getting a jump start on the Bridges.

If they are not raising them now, then I guess the were never planning too. Redoing it in a couple years wouldn't make any sense...

As far as I know, the La. 1 Coalition does not have any plans for Fourchon to GI. The whole emphasis has been on securing access to Port Fourchon.

That section was planned but never had a source of funding lined up. In other words, it probably won't happen in our lifetime.

And yet here we are again. Reviving an old thread to see if anyone knows WTF they are doing to the bridges now and an ETC for the work. As of now it looks like traffic this summer will be a nightmare. We just waited through 3 light cycles to get through the last bridge on our way off the island. Traffic was backed up to the light on the 2nd bridge. Any info would be appreciated!

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but the contractor who is doing the job will never finish on time. I’m not sure if they are supposed to be working on all three sites at once but he doesn’t have the resources to do so.

The state does have plans to elevate hwy from the current start to golden meadow but first they have to spend 15 million to fix that 90 degree turn near the toll both some genius at ladotd came up with. Who knows when that next phase will take place but I can tell you the state doesn’t have the money to pay for the two phases that were built.

I would hope that they aren't going to waste money on what will become an exit once they complete the highway to golden meadow. That would be a complete waste of funds.

The modifications the intersection where it currently makes a 90 deg turn to Leevile are required to meet geometric code for an intersection at the speed that it will be once the bridge is built to the north of that location. Obviously, the way it is configured now, you almost have to come to a stop to make the turn. Once the highway continues on to the north, it will need to allow for turning at a higher (but reasonable) speed. It also needs to be widened to accommodate the left turn traffic that would be coming from the north.

It was not built for the continuing highway originally due to funding limitations at the time of the original construction and lack of knowing when funding for the northern section would ever be available. In other words, it didn't make sense to build the intersection to accommodate traffic patterns and speeds that may not be present for many many years.
