The only thing I will add is how thankful the technology came along for warm boots. When I was a kid we had shitty boots! Nothing more I can say. We had shitty boots!!

I look around and read this board and it seems like 90% of the hunters these days are staying in nice camps, and sitting in warm box stands, and looking out over herds of deer while waiting to select a big one to shoot with their scoped $1000 rifle.

Not this guy. I saw 5 deer this year, 2 does and 3 yearlings, and shot one of the does with a $250 rifle/scope combo.

And I know swamp hunting - tromping miles back in the swamp in frigid temperatures with water up to your ballsack hoping you don't kill a deer because you don't want to have to drag it out. But, the reward of killing one like that is much greater than popping one eating out a feeder from a box stand.

I enjoy both ways and will continue to hunt both ways.

My old man is the same way. Says hunting from a box stand next to a feeder takes all the sport out of it. He started losing some of his interest in hunting when 8-year old girls started "killing" 12-points.

Mother of god, they were terrible. I'm sure better boots existed, but we couldn't afford them.

I'm 36. I remember the days you do. I remember our camp with an outhouse, no electric and a pump with a 2x4 handle on the porch. Deer hunting with a 20 gauge, in a stand by myself when I was 7. I also think your post is, for the most part, a crock of shite.

It's all good to remember the old days for all the old guys around here, but there is a constant hate on this board for new generation outdoors that is hilarious to me.

all of this, except I had a .243 at 7, my camp only got an outhouse in my latter years.. Before then, it was shite in the palmetto thicket.

And we drove into that pieced together camp on loaded down 3 wheelers, drenched in mud.

And I love my nice camp, nice equipment and technology. Don't take one bit of it for granted. ANd im 28, been hunting my entire life

Really? What part of it?

And guys, I'm all for technology. I have no problems with the advancement. I'm just saying it's different today than it was when I started.

Not me

We sat in a climbing stand, in frigid temperatures, with shitty clothing, barely any sleep, not seeing deer, with no iphones or anything to pass the time, for four hours each morning and each afternoon. And yes, everything was uphill both ways.
me

There is a difference between the two, and it is called having money. Where some guys think,"Awe damn, this isn't something I can mount on my wall" I think,"fricking right, I shot a damn deer!"

Btw, I think my 15yr old bow shoots 170fps

After hunting pretty much every way there is for deer I will say that the satisfaction you get from packing a climber deep in the woods to a spot you found and killing a deer after countless hours enduring the skeeters, bitter cold, rain, wind, etc trumps sitting in a warm, dry box stand waiting to get lucky

I'll add that im not above making myself as comfortable as possible. Some days I dont want to be the "great white hunter" and i'll find that taj mahal to get in. But that doesnt mean I havent, cant, and wont put on a pair of hip boots and go after one deep in the swamp.

Im 32 and I was raised in box stands over looking pastures. "roughing" it type hunting is something I choose to make it more of a challenge for myself
