We just got done shooting their poor excuse for 'sporting clays'.

I didn't hear anything different than what's already been said here. Just some shady sounding actions by the sheriff.

As an avid sporting clays shooter, I have a love hate with that place. I appreciate a place to shoot in the GBR area, but damn that place can suck at offering a true sporting clays venue. It's been a while since I've shot a full 100 round of clays out there and enjoyed myself.

Currently, they only have 5 stations open and it's all pretty much out going targets at different speeds and angles. Very blah.

Someone is the BR region needs to go bigly and put up a place that compares to Los Paloma in Bossier parish.

It baffles me as well that BR doesn't have a very nice shooting complex either privately or government owned.

I lived on the east coast for about 10 years and the amount of high quality shooting facilities embarrasses Louisiana. South Carolina just opened their Palmetto Shooting Comolex and it is amazing. Hell, even Mississippi with their Turcotte range and several others can get it together. But not Baton Rouge, a huge city where almost every male adult owns a gun and hunts.

Truth be known, I feel the carry over from sporting clays to hunting is minimal (and is mostly in the form of becoming comfortable with your gun) unless you are shooting clays with steel shot of the same size you would for hunting, or use lead shot for hunting, , and I have never been to a course that allows steel shot

The best practice I have gotten, other than actual hunting, is taking a mini mag flashlight and taping it to the end of the barrel, turn it on and practice shouldering the gun to a specific spot (a corner of the room where the ceiling meets the wall) without looking down the barrel(never take your eyes off the target) , after that is mastered do the same but start following the crown molding around the room, or up and down the corners

Bartender did say that if they didn't get it, opening a place somewhere else would be a consideration. Who knows, maybe they woukd open something a little nicer.

Riverside is members only but they host a few charity and registered shoots per year.

I haven't heard about Long River closing down. I just shot a registered event about three weeks ago out there and it was great.

Regarding acreage, there are plenty of great clubs out there on less than 50 acres.

Nothing that Mike Cazes does passes the smell test.

Remember his special treatment for the rich girl that had killed someone in a DWI crash

Go put on your best dress, drive out there, squeeze your hands together, and say 'Pleeeeeeeeeeese'.

Honestly I don't know. I've never asked. A good place to start would probably be the One Man Shoot in March. Get three of your buddies, $1200, and go have a good time. While you're there, introduce yourself to some members and go from there.
