B'ham Area.

I put out one feeder in early August and 1-2 birds would come by occasionally.

Sunday, right before the weather moved in, 2-3 more showed up. I figured they were moving south ahead of the front.

Today, I've got 6 fighting over 3 feeders, all day long.

Southeast of ATL, McDonough, have had about 3 to 4 times our normal visitors here. 3 feeders out, always have some around.

It’s not really that they’re moving through, it’s more that all the natural nectar sources are drying up.

I've seen a few on my salvia in West Fel. They've also been checking the empty feeders. I'm going to fill them this evening.

Just upped my feeder count from 2 to 4. may go to 5 by Sunday. The chasing was pretty intense this morning. More birds and more feeders will take care of that.

I’ve been watching one fight off any other hummingbird that comes by the feeder for the past 5 days. He’s a loud bastard too. They are fun to watch.

I live in Northwest Florida, and they are showing up over here. I need to add feeders this weekend.

This. Everything is dead from the drought.

My peak hummertime is the 2nd and 3rd week of Sept in North MS. I have 4 feeders and it's not unsual to have 40+ birds at one time. GIF from last Sept.

Nah, I have pics from late August every year, drought or not. I also have things like cypress vine that flowers all summer. You can count on more birds in La. in late August every year.

We keep four or five feeders out all summer at our place in North Mississippi. Hard to make a good count on number of bids, but we have steady action on the feeders starting in June. Usually go thru about 1/3 of a gallon of homemade nectar a day.

For us, the big rush is early September and lasts two weeks or so during which the increased number of birds consume a full gallon a day. Its a crazy time but fun to watch them.
