How far from the blind and do you typically cover it up as well?

Depends I have hunted as close as 75 yards from the boat, depends on the situation. I never cover the bay boat, but always hide myself and the pirouge.

Anywhere from 75-100 yds typically. Pretty much run it up on the bank and spud pole it so it doesn't go anywhere and then pirogue or kayak back to the blind. I've never covered the boat.

the only private place i hunt has a covered boat dock built into the backside of the blind. so you just climb into the blind and set up

That's legit. I've hunted in a couple blinds like that but it's not possible to do in the marsh where I hunt.

I know they are talking about the marsh here, but this is the way to go, hunted in my leather boots yesterday.

We build covers for boats as part of the blinds.

Normally about 150 yards from the blind. We do not cover the boat either although it is a duck boat and not bright orange or anything that would scream humans.

I agree. Hunted out of a set up like that on Sunday in the marsh. It is real nice to hunt and not wear rubber boots.

Marsh grass is very low where I'm at. Sure you could do it in Venice but I don't have the Roseau cane to hide me, much less a boat underneath me. I hunt out of my layout blind on the bank.

Know a guy who has a REALLY nice setup in the marsh in Cameron. Boat slips under a garage but barely. Then in front there's a wrap around bench for probably 6-7 people. Hey brought in a lot of buckets etc to plant vegetation to hide the setup. It's huge but camo'd really well

Buddy and I hunted Catahoula with a dude a few years ago with a pretty good setup covered in pine branches. Duck on the water and within 10 seconds he was pulling out the blind in his surface drive to go get them.

You definition of marsh and my definition must differ, because on private land, the blinds like the one above are the only one's I've hunted out of. Those things are all over in the Bonne Carre Spillway.

Now, I can completely understand in some marshes. I've hunted some public areas I wouldn't even think of trying that in. You'd have trouble even getting a boat in.

Is that not considered marsh in the pic? It's about 3 ft deep water and one foot southeast tx mud.

I drive it up a trenasse and park in a little feeder. Probably about getting 80-90 yards away. If I paddle in, I either sink pirogue or cover with brush.
