Well stated and quite true.

Today was the day. She fought valiantly for nearly seven weeks, with the help of medication and lots of attention and care from us. Most of it was good quality, but last weekend she was in a lot of pain. A little better the last two days, but her spirit was keeping her going while her little body was giving out. She was willing to keep it up a little longer but maybe she was just enduring it out of love for me. She's not hurting any more. RIP Kate.

Sorry to hear that man. You were a lucky guy to get to spend this quality time with her.

RIP Kate...

So I went on Facebook, and one of my fraternity brothers had posted he lost his lab today, too. Maybe that means something, maybe it's just a coincidence. I'd like to think it means she has a buddy to go with her on her journey.

You gave that dog the life that all other dogs wish they had.

We had to put a collie down a few months ago. He had some kind of spinal problem. He was only 5-6 yrs old. Now his dad is about 13-14 and he is wondering around, not knowing where he's going and shite. He doesn't appear to be in pain, but has problems getting from laying down a good bit. I hate it more for my 2 sons, (19 and 24) and the wife. That damn dog grew up with those young men. It has to be done soon and I am dreading the day, but I got it to do.

Another spooky occurrence. This morning I was walking our other lab down our regular route on an abandoned road through a swampy area. We saw a big water moccasin crossing the road. In all the times I walked that path with Kate these last weeks, we never saw a venomous snake. She was practically blind and deaf, and could easily have walked up on one without knowing it, but we never saw one. It's like something was protecting her, and now that she's gone, nature is getting back to normal.

Sorry, man. This is hurting me pretty bad. As bad today as yesterday. People will allow you a day to grieve, then you're supposed to move on. Doesn't work that way, at least for me. There's a big dog shaped hole in my heart.

It will, but if you are like me, and it sounds like you are, your pets are part of your family. I lost my 2 labs 7 weeks apart 6 years ago, I still remember the day, day of the week, and thoughts about those days with each dog.

When ready, start memories with new ones. Dogs are awesome.

Yep, our labs are working dogs, but they're always house pets, too. They are family, and losing one is losing a family member. They never have a bad day, they're always glad to see you. There's never an ulterior motive. You always know what they're thinking. And they love you, even when you're at your worst. They just want to be with you.

Ater 11 years, my Yellow Lab is ready to meet her maker. Two months ago, she was diagnosed with Cancer and I made the decison immediatly that I would not put her through Canine Treatments but when she was ready to move on, I hoped she would tell me when she was ready and she did this morning. She was my companion in the blind for nearly 7 years and the balance of her life we set aside for being a household pet and most importantly, my "rock". Sadie will be truely missed

I have made arrangements for her at the Vet tomorrow @ 8AM. She will be buried at our farm where her spirits will run across the open fields, swamps and pastures.

May the sky's be filled with cupping Mallards, may there be a swimming pool to get into to take your morning laps and I am hopefull that you will find your mother.

God Bless, Love You and I will miss you Sadie - see you soon.
