Hopedale/Shell Beach/Breton Sound fishing

Has anyone been lately? I seen some reports of a few fish caught on the islands but that's a heck of a run and the bite won't last much longer out there. Any fish being caught in the MRGO or Black Bay?

I plan on making a trip out there saturday. The wind isn't looking to good right now.

LSUCouyon went 2 weekends ago. They did not do very well at all. I think they fished Breton Island and some of the rigs out there. They left out from Hopedale and hit some spots around there as well.

Well that's not what I was looking to hear. I guess it's tuff fishing right now with the specks making their move in.

They were able to buy some nice arse shrimp. I got 20 lbs out of the deal and did not have to head a single shrimp myself!

We actually fished the rocks and went out to dead man island in Bay Eloi. Some of the guides went out to Battledore and stayed on Bulls, but not much trout to be had. Tons of smalls, though.
Started exploring Biloxi Marsh that weekend, saw guys catching a few trout. We found a few points that had small trout there.
We fished one day closer to Delacroix because of the wind, but caught a few keeper reds and some nice blacks. One good thing we found was that are a ton of small 14-15" reds there. Looks like a good crop coming.
Good luck.
Webfoot, glad you liked the shrimp. Yall got into so much of my supply Labor Day, I had to deny a certain bro-in-law his 10 ibs.

Was hoping to open this thread to see some good news. I know the wind isn't that good out there right now. Tomorrow is our Employee Fishing Rodeo out of Breton Sound Marina. I hope it dies down a bit.
Any suggestions on places to go, staying inside the marshes?
I was thinking Halfmoon Lake, Lake Eloi and Lake Athansio and the inner marsh in that area on the north side if MRGO... Maybe even try Bay Eloi if the wind allows.

hope they have a redfish category. Everybody might be stacked up at the dam!

I came in 2nd in the Trout category last year with a 1.12lb trout. Weather last year was just like what tomorrow looks like it's going to be.

Just got back from Hopedale. Focused on reds because of the wind and had two man limit by 9:00 at the mouth of Bayou Eloi. Water was really nice on that side. Stopped in Bayou St Malo on the way back and caught and released a few reds as well, Water was best I have ever seen there. Fished the west side of the long rocks last week when wind allowed at the island near the end and had a good trout bite on good sized ones with few throw backs.

Where it dumps into Lake Eloi? Mind if I ask what you were using? Live, dead, artificial?

West side, meaning the first stretch of rocks after the land "ends"?

How far into Malo?
Thanks!

Pot licking, eh?
Just want to catch fish. First time fishing that area since last year's rodeo so I have no idea where to go/what's biting/what they're biting on.
Any advantage I can get, I'll take it.

All fish were caught on live shrimp from BSM fished 14-18 inches under popping cork.
When entering bayou Eloi from Lake Eloi there are some pilings on the right about 50 yards in. we started there and worked that shoreline for about 150-200 yards as it was protected from East wind.
Bayou St Malo was the first opening in the marsh on the left and just got back in the marsh and moved around fishing the points.
The rocks I am referring to are the ones on the right as you travel down the MRGO. These are the long rocks. You will come to a navigational cut with two jetties going out into the bay and you just keep going . You will see another area where the rocks have washed away, but that is not the end, keep going and you will see where the rocks pick up again and that point is where we fished. You can get in behind the rocks at that point if there is a brisk from the east. There is also a small island that has built up on the bay side or the rocks in this area.
Hope this helps, I find Google Earth helps me get the relative position of places before I go even with GPS charts.

I saw the island at the rocks you're talking about... I might have to skip that as I'm in a 17ft flat bottom Carolina Skiff and if the wind is kicking, that won't be an enjoyable ride at all. Thanks for the info on the other spots though. Like I said, I already intended on hitting half-moon, Lake Eloi and Lake Athanasia anyway, so Bayou Eloi is right there!

I fish out of a 16.5 Duracraft flat bottom. The key to getting there in an eest wind is staying out of the MRGO. At the end of the spoil canal rather than going left into the MRGO look for the bayou straight ahead slightly to your left. Take it down into the upper part of the bay that is protected from an east wind by the rocks and run all the way down that way. Come back the same way and you have minimal exposure to open water.

There's a solid redfish spot just outside of the canal

Thanks for all your help. I'll be sure to come back and post my results.

Bet it's on the left as you exit the canal
