They both have equal capabilities of pissing me off by not having what I want on any given day.

Neither had a refrig that I selected from the their displays this week.

If you're doing something big like this, consider getting gift cards in advance from online. I use raise.com but I've used other places as well. Generally save at least 10%. My parents are doing a kitchen remodel and took my advice regarding gift cards and they ended up saving over $1200 on their new cabinets alone.

I prefer Lowe's even if it isn't cheaper.

Most of the Home Depot stores have horrible customer service. I swear part of the new employee training includes "how to avoid customers."

Not a bad idea. The deepest discount I can find, though, is 9% and it eliminates the 5% I get from my Lowe's credit card so the savings is only 4%. And after I buy 3 of the cards the savings drops to under 2%. A few years ago Lowe's sold gift cards at a 10% discount. I bought a bunch of those.

I have always had the complete opposite experience. At any HD around me, most of the guys working the floor will come up and ask if you need any help. At Lowe's you can't even find someone to chase down (they do actually walk away and ignore me)

I tell what I hate about both---buyers will change suppliers on their house brands and you can not get a replacement part for it AND they will buy a name brand item and not carry the basic parts to fix it.

I bought a Kohler toilet at Lowes and a year latter I needed the tank float mechanism. They didn't carry it. I had to order it from Kohler. What a pain.

My mom has a Kohler, but not from HD or Lowe's, and she had to order parts from Southland Plumbing. I think they just change their parts often

But....I two LED lights for under my cabinets from HD. One was bad, and they still haven't restocked it so I can get another one

Says who? I work at Lowes and dogs are more than welcome in there. It's awesome because most owners will let me pet their dogs.

Lowes offers a military discount everyday as well. You don't even have to be active. As long as that card doesn't say DOD Civilian on it, you can get 10%. I almost got fired because some a-hole got irate that I wouldn't give him a discount. He was damn civilian. frick that.

Lumber-form package, framing package, roofing, siding, millwork, pulls, nobs
(Lumber yard cheaper plus locks are keyed.)
Price wise they blow homedepot and lowes away.

Sheetrock - have two specialty places because the deliver inside and my Sheetrock don't get wet.

Appliances - lowes due to next day delivery but a few local places are cheaper with better service. Appliance distributors and stratons are easier to deal with and better prices plus service.

Sometimes I use Stine when I want one vendor for everything.
