How many miles and what kind?
I'm driving a 2004 F150 4x4 supercrew with 177,000 miles. It would be awesome to get 250K without any major work needed.

Keep your oil changed and ignore the squeaky bushings and balljoints and you'll make it just fine.
I keep every vehicle to 200+, and then someone usually totals it by hitting me.

I plan on going over 200k with my current truck. It is paid off. Had it since August, and have put like 20K on it. Once I graduate and start making some money, I plan on getting a V12 CL65 for cruising the highways and byways

If someone hits you who gets to decide whether the vehicle gets totaled or repaired? I have a 98 in great shape due to the fact I drive a company vehicle and spent a load of cash to refurbish the paint and interior from sun damage. i would hate for someone to hit me and I only recoup a couple thousand on my investment.

2003 Chevrolet 3/4 ton gasser. 219k miles. I doubt I ever kill the engine. Expecting the transmission to let go around 250k.

My hunting vehicle is an Isuzu Trooper,93 model has a 2.8 litre Chevy engine with 337,000 on the odometer, not even 1 driveline repair of any kind. I bought it new. Wish they still made those things.

'94 PowerWagon with 235K. Paint job is rough, but it rides good and still does what I want it to do. I'll keep it until it absolutely just lays down and dies.

1999 GMC Sierra 1500 SLT. 271,000 miles and still going strong on original motor and trans. Only issues I've had are a minor head gasket leak, water pump, and typical minor oil leaks. I ONLY use Mobil 1 and Lucas oil stabilizer. I would highly recommend that combination to anyone who wants to get the most of out their truck. I easily see getting 300,000+ as a daily driver. It can be done.

Is synthetic oil better for an older, high mileage engine? And what about "high mileage" oil? Why is it better, or is it really "better"?

2005 Tundra with 176k miles. Bought it from a buddy that took care of it since he worked at a car repair place. I also have another buddy that is a mechanic at Lexus, so he can work on it if I need him to. I expect to keep this sucker for a long time. Only paid 7k for it 3 months ago.

06 GMC 3500 Duramax Diesel
309,469 miles
no major work needed (thank God). Next owner may have some, but I'm good at this point.

Insurance company decides. My wifes 99 escort was just totaled by someone bumping it in a driveway. Now i'm out 30k for a new Honda.

Not kidding about this: I have not changed oil in that trooper in the last 70,000 miles, I check the oil, and if it needs some, I put 20-50 in it.

If my Tundra makes it that far, I'm still driving it. Screw a car note.

I tend to default to Synthetic oil and I personally think Synthetic is more efficient for higher mileage vehicles.
I typically use 10W-30 and it just depends on whether high mileage is available. In a high mileage vehicle, i'd keep it 10W or lower and 30 or lower. You want quick oil flow at cold start up since internal components can become more worn out at higher miles. And the higher viscosity you go (30 and above), the heavier the oil, meaning the slower it will flow. Again, same premise for higher mileage vehicles in that you want better oil flow.
Synthetic oil tends to seal and lubricate gaskets better than regular oil, IMO. Better may be a lose term but I believe Synthetic extends life of the motor by decreasing leaks and offering better oil flow. Just my .02.

precisely why I keep driving this one. That and truck manufacturers have all but priced themselves out of the market for me. I use a truck like a truck, so $50K-$60K for a one ton is ludicrous IMO.
