I got a tekota 700 last week

And I'm trying to decide what rod to pair it with. As of right now I'm thinking either a shimano trevala or a penn carnage.

Yup. That's the right call. I would go with something in the 30-80lb range on a 6'6" rod

Shimano Trevala Jigging Rod - Get the M action, 30-80# 6'6" version

Penn Carnage Jigging Rod - same weight and length as Shimano

If it were me, I would go Shimano on Shimano. If you had a Penn reel I would go with a Penn rod. Can't go wrong with either though. Any rod in that same vein would be perfect, I would just want something light enough to feel mango bites, and long enough to cast free-lined croakers into rigs for said mangos.

I've snapper fished with the Trevala, Carnage, and Ugly Stick and honestly the Ugly Stick will work just fine for the money.

The Trevala is awesome but is it worth the $$$$...up to you.

that's the one you want. my STAR package came with 2 of them and 2 tekotas. perfect for snapper. however, the power pro will dig in on big fish (which is all i catch)

Which will not hold out to saltwater. If you are using powerpro, just make the line every 10 meters with a marks-a-lot.
