First thing I thought of too. These things are coming around more and more often. They aren't really migratory. Make a squeaking sound in flight.

They are migratory. They winter in Mexico and summer in the Gulf Coast. Like rice fields and nest in them.In SW Louisiana we have been seeing them for years.

It was on my iPhone 4 dip shite. about 10+ yards away. I couldnt open the front door without scaring them off.

Checked into the migration thing. Cornell says they don't migrate, but what do they really know about the birds habits around here I guess (no a-hole).

I just know I've seen them year round in SE LA similar to summer mallards...
