I just booked a 6 hour trip on the Swoop out of Destin for later this month. Anyone ever been on it? Am I going to catch anything?

Best boat I can recommend in Destin is the Sunrise - Capt Kelly will not disappoint.

I do not know anything about the Swoop...but I would recommend to stay away from Party Boats....imho.

Yep - spaghetti.

ETA: Those are great if you just want a relaxing boat ride with 40 strangers who've probably never held a fishing pole in their life. Sit back and drink a few while enjoying the show.

Make conversation with the deckhand. Let him know you want to float a cigar minnow off the back with a spinning rod. You may be able to catch something larger than the weight that they will be using on those drop lines.

What do those big party boats target after snapper season closes?

Get those pics of the boat out of your mind. You will be shoulder to shoulder all the way around the boat. Would not do it IMO.

It's not bad for the price if you've never done offshore. The thing I hate is that most of those boats have different setups for bow vs stern fishing. If you don't position yourself properly you can get stuck in the front catching trigger fish all day. They tell everyone to switch up after you catch your snapper limit but no one does. Usually the people who want to sit on the bow on the way out get screwed. Just my experience, I've only been 3 times on those big boats.

Also, one time this guy hooked a wahoo at the boat when he was reeling it in to check his bait and it ran on the surface an tangled about 15 people up, including me.

I made a similar trip a few weeks ago in Jacksonville. It is fun to get out there and hang out with different folks. We caught 10-12 mangrove snapper and 6-8 sea bass and 2 amberine. Only 1 large AJ caught on the whole boat.
Kick back drink a few beers and enjoy.

I've been a bunch of times on the New Florida Girl. For the price, it's hard to beat. My buddy gave one of the deck hands 2 saints tickets a couple years ago, so he takes damn good care of us. He even threw in a few free trips and cleans our fish first when we get back on land. I have never had trip on that boat. I have, however, had some shitty trips out of Orange Beach.

I went out on Swoop in the beginning of June- it was nice for the price and the crew was very friendly.
