I want to get 4 new tires for my vehicle and the local shops close to my house have pretty shitty inventory. TireRack.com seems to have some pretty good tires (based on Consumer Reports rankings) for good prices. Supposedly they'll ship direct to one of the local shops who will then charge their nominal fees to install the tires.

I'm just wondering if any of you have used TireRack.com in this manner and if it's as seamless as they make it out to be on their website. TIA.

Never used tirerack but I just purchased my last set of tires from tirebuyer.com. Pretty painless process. Ship tires for free to installer that you pick on their website.

The place I got my last set of tires was cheaper, so I forewent going through an internet purchase.

Discount tire direct because they have great prices AND free shipping.

Of the last 3 sets that I bought 2 came from Amazon and the other came from tirerack or discount tire.

Whichever it was I was pretty pleased with the process. Shipped to my house and a local installer put them on the wheels.

I've looked into them, but I always go to discount tire direct instead. They have a better selection for my size, better prices and free shipping (I think).

I'll check out a couple of these other vendors you guys have mentioned. I've never heard of them. Thanks for the suggestions. It sounds like anyone that has shipped to an installer hasn't really had any issues. Good to know.

Used tire rack a few times. If you have a good installer, it's the way to go IMO.

My town (Shreveport) has a tirerack warehouse. I buy tires on their site and select that I'm picking them up myself. With my last set of tires I saved a ton of money. Just depends on the tire though - there is a TON of wiggle room on tires. I've done well by just making up a fake price and asking a store to beat it.

yes, which equals 5% tax. Tread depot = no tax and "free" shipping, on Toyo anyway. But I bought my last set of mud tires off Amazon.

Yep couple times actually with zero issues. I had them shipped to my office and from there I dropped them off with my Jeep to have the tires swapped out. Charged me $100 if I remember correctly to discard old and mounted/balanced new tires.

ETA, maybe it was Discount Tire Direct after thinking about it.

Used them for shocks, not tires. But, their customer service and prices appear legit.

Correct. If you live in Louisiana do not buy from Tirerack. You'll pay taxes and shipping.
Discount tire direct you pay neither.

I've done the tirerack purchase and it went as expected. Local Pepboys installed mine. I used Amazon twice as well. I found a great deal on only two tires that I needed on the rear end of a 370Z. Same good experience at the local Pep Boys.

Bought tires for my wife's car and Firestone Price Matched Tire Rack with no questions asked. I told them which tire to order, and they charged me the same price as the website.

Have used them in the past, but now local places will match their price, or even beat it.

They do have a useful tool for virtually. trying different rims on your vehicle.

The reviews are also excellent for determining if the tires are good that you are considering.

Anyone ordered Toyos from any of the online sites? TireRack doesn't have my size and the others mentioned on this thread so far don't carry them.
