Built up a Anderson lower with SAE trigger. Have built and bought ars and have the following:
Reg 16" ar rifle
Ar "pistols" in 300 blk and .556 with sig braces/law tactical adapter
18" SS AR with 1x4 Leopold
AR 10 with 20" ss barrel (heavy)

I'm out of ideas and need one. Original thought was another 18" barrel and but a more power scope on but idk. Anything out there I really need?

Btw- I don't reload so I avoid those type calibers

***update****

Got a 6.5 Grendel based off advice from this thread. It's an 18" ss barrel.

I now ask another question. Is the recoil light enough for my 6 yr old daughter to shoot? She has shot a 223 and no problems. Also has shot a 300 blk out and no problem. If so what hunting ammo should I get? Also I'll be using a suppressor with it....tia

How's the ammo availability on this?

What is the purpose (long range, hunting, etc)

Everything compatible with 556 except upper (like 300 blk)

Would like an overview on the caliber if you don't mind....tia

You against SBRing it? I would say SBR it and start with an unpinned 14.5" so you can experiment with various muzzle devices. You can always add other shorty uppers to that SBRed lower.

Easy to find. Steel case is barely more than 7.62x39 steel case. Match and hunting ammo is fairly cheap. It's a great long range and hunting caliber. Everything is 5.56 compatible besides barrel, bolt, and mags.

18 inches is what I would go with probably. What is your glass budget?

I have a 6.8 and will be building a 6.5 Grendel.
Until you get out to around 500yds (I think that's right may be 300yds though) the 6.8 and the 6.5 are very close.

I can say that the 6.8 will crush a deer. My little man killed his first with it 2 yrs ago. Dropped her in her tracks.

I'm absolutely fascinated with the 6.5 though. I want a creedmoor really badly. May switch my AR-10 from .308 to 6.5 or may just buy a bolt action.

What's the difference if 6.5 Grendel and 6.5 creedmore? I've heard great things about the creedmore

6.5 creedmoor will fit in an AR-10
6.5 Grendel will fit in an AR-15

Creedmoor is still supersonic at 1000yds

Ballistically both great at 500yds (farthest I'd shoot)? Both use 30 cal can?

Yes. The 6.5 creedmoor will be much flatter and faster at 500 yds compared to the grendel but they will both be good 500yds and in

.30 cal silencer will handle anything .30 and under so yes.

It won't be as efficient but I doubt you could differentiate between the two.

People ask this a lot because they both start with 6.5, but it's really not a fair comparison since the only thing they share is the same diameter bullet. It would be like comparing .300 BLK to a .300 Winchester Magnum. Two different cartridges, similar diameter with the .300 Blk having a very specific and narrow application. As for the Grendel/Creedmoor, the Creedmoor has a substantially larger case which means more powder/power.

If you're going to move into the 6.5 Creedmoor action size family of choices then it has it's competition in that sphere depending on your application. But getting back to the Grendel I'll tell you why its better than its direct competitors in the AR family that are widely commercially supported such as the 6.8 SPC, 7.62x39 and heavier DMR loading of the 5.56 Nato. From SBR to 24" the Grendel beats out the others ballistically in BC, range, wind drift and drop, with the exception of a marginal advantage to 6.8 inside 300ish yards. But because of the 6.8's stubby bullets it craps out after that. But if you're going to choose between the 6.8 or 6.5 why no go with the one thats got legs. Another perk is that because of the rise in popularity of the 6.5 Creed, and with it an abundance of 6.5mm rifled blanks, quality 6.5 Grendel barrels are becoming more readily available and cheaper making it priced similar to the others. With this pushing a rise in popularity of the Grendel more local vendors are carrying ammo. So, you can grab a box from Academy for that last minute range trip. The 6.5 Grendel uses the AR15 platform which is lighter and standardized unlike the .308 platform so no worries about compatibility issues if you're going to assemble it yourself. The 6.5 Grendel has phenomenal ballistics compared to the others and even out performs the .308 in flight. It makes a fine deer rifle... and people regularly use it for elk. Mark Larue shot one with one of their rifles not too long ago at 400 yards IIRC. It's the most efficient loading for the AR15 that isn't a wildcat. The parts sharing aspect to me is a wash. Yeah the .300BLK shares everything with 5.56 NATO but the barrel and a reason to exist, but is anyone changing out just the barrel everytime? Most t people still have a separate upper assembly for their .300BLk, sure you can then share the bolt, but for convenience I would have one for each anyway....and you know that whole 3%r molan my labe "one is none, two is one" so it works out. It does take different mags, but in a pinch I've used regular 5.56 mags without issue loading 5-10 in a 30 rounder. In all likelihood, what you're going to be doing with the Grendel you're gonna want some 5 and 10 round mags anyway so the lack of mag sharing to me doesn't isn't a disadvantage.

TLDR, I'm hugely biased and have had some cocktails.
