dumb question...any issue w/ just loading a yak in the bed of a truck w/ tailgate down? I see people w/ trucks still using a kayak trailer.

never owned a kayak and starting to look at them

Tailgate down is the only way I do it. Just strap it in good and hang an orange or red flag on the end

I've got a 14' Tarpon and lay my tailgate down, and run a strap around the yak and tailgate. I tie a bright orange tshirt to the end of the yak.

Also, I got a strip of fake turf grass to lay the boat on top of so the fiberglass has cushion and support for the shitty roads in Louisiana.

I had a PA14 and it stuck far enough out the back of my Tacoma that I would have been worried about it bending in half. I got an Extend a Truck and wrapped it in pool noodle material. I will say that if I get another set if PA's I will get a trailer. Too much to lift into and out of the bed.
