just an update.

ORANGE BEACH, Ala. - News 5 has learned authorities made an arrest involving a bottlenose dolphin shot and killed with a hunting arrow. The dolphin washed up in Orange Beach at the beginning of December. Authorities say a teenager has been charged in the dolphin death. Investigators say the dolphin was shot in Florida waters. They tell News 5 they have a written confession from the teenager and have seized his bow. A substantial reward was created for information leading to an arrest in this dolphin case. No word yet if anyone will be eligible to collect the $24,000. NOAA, Florida Fish and Wildlife, Alabama Department of Conservation, and the Escambia County Sheriff's Office are handling the case. News 5's Chad Petri is digging deeper into this arrest and investigation. He will have more coming up later today on News 5 at 5:00 and 6:00. We will also add new updates here on wkrg.com.

So this teen that got arrested... Let's look into a few years when he's applying for jobs

Have you ever been convicted of a felony? Yes

If yes in above questions list where, when, and why. I shot a dolphin

Interview time

Interviewer: So tell me about this felony you were charged with.

Interviewee: I shot a dolphin, was arrested, and charged.

That really is incredibly cruel. There is absolutely no point in that. At least kill a shark if you are going to do something that dumb. How can you even think it would be cool to boast about killing a damn dolphin. That would be like shooting a cow in a pasture.

I heard on the local news after they found it, that it lived for 5 days after being shot (the day they found it)

That really is terrible. I am amazed something didn't get a hold to it before then. I am sure it was bleeding and moving slow.

As a Probation and Parole officer in Central Florida, we see cases like this on occasion. It is usually Manatees as the victims. The interesting thing about the people who commit these types of crimes is that they are usually very sadistic people who were most likely abused as children. They of course go on to commit ore horrible crimes against other people.

I had a dickhead case several years back who hated Manatees. He would intentionally hit them with his boat. He had done it several times and finally the Judge locked his arse up in Federal Prison for a while.

There are lots of really sick people out there. Lots of them.

I would say they are comparable. At least the high fence deer was meant to be shot because they are trophies regardless whether earned or not. I don't know of anyone who considers dolphins a trophy.
